Subject: once saved always saved |
Bible Note: Dear RM2, It boils down to whether or not man saves himself by something that he does. If one is saved by the excersize of one's unaided, then it opens the door to say that man may change his mind and "unsave" himself. Does God merely make salvation available? Does eternal life depend on a decision made by a spiritual corpse? I believe the answer is an emphatic... NO! Some christians consider "predestination to salvation" an abhorrent doctrine. They believe that when a man chooses to "accept Christ" (a particularly poor choice of words) he does so out of a desire that has awakened in his own unregenerate heart. The problem I have with such a theory is that it is contradicted by the Word of God. Gen 8:21 The LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, "I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man's heart is evil from his youth; Eccl 9:3 ...the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Jer 16:12 'You too have done evil, even more than your forefathers; for behold, you are each one walking according to the stubbornness of his own evil heart, without listening to Me. Matt 12:34 "You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. Luke 6:45 "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. I would like to continue along this line if you are willing. Your thoughts? John Reformed |
