Subject: once saved always saved |
Bible Note: Greetings TheCurtMan! I reposted Kalos' observations on this subject with which I agree. I do not see this as negative however. I believe in the eternal security of the believer. Just this morning I was confronted with a question that seems appropriate for this discussion. Is there a difference between believing in God and believing God? (I'll post this on the Forum too)Compare these two Scriptures: James 2:19 and James 2:23. I suspect that there a many folks who believe in God who are unregenerate. Yet, it is the Lord who searches the heart. (This is NOT my job!) What do you think the Lord is looking for when He searches the heart of each individual? In looking for some common ground that we can rally around on this subject, this statement from Kalos' post is, in my mind, inclusive of both opinions. "This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier. Whether he had lost his salvation (mommapbs writes - one viewpoint)or never had it to begin with (mommapbs - MY viewpoint), either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) Radioman has also provided some good insight into this passage in Hebrews as well. The way I (MY OPINION!) see it is: once saved, always saved. God knows who are His and the Holy Spirit asures believers of their salvation see 1 John 5. I hope this helps! Blessings - doubt your doubts! mommapbs |
