Subject: once saved always saved |
Bible Note: Dear Ed, "Can any Christian say they faced less opposition from Satan once they became saved?" I was'nt aware that the unsaved were capable or even desireous of offering any defense against Satan! "If we can't lose our salvation then why is Satan trying so hard to get us to sin?" Would you please support your rhetorical question with a scriptural foundation? Maybe he is just bound by his evil nature to try to torment God's children. I don't know for sure. But we may rejoice in knowing that even the devil is God's devil; he can only serve as a tool in God's hand to bring about God's good pleasure. Job 1:12 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD. 1 Cor 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 2 Cor 12:7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself! 1 Tim 1:20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme. "I'm afraid in many cases he is very successful, I have seen many strong Christians yield to his wiles and walk away from the faith they once exhibited. Were they saved or not I don't know. What I do know once they were living for God and now their living for the world." Why not draw the answer from Scripture itself? 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. It seems to me that, no matter what the devil does or does not do..."we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Rom 8:28) The very notion that the devil can snatch a child of the King from His hand is, to say the least, unscriptural. Please Ed do not take offense. I am not looking to pick a fight, but, I could not let your ideas go unchallenged. John |
