Bible Note: Doc - I don't mean to be contrary, and I'm not advocating a specific teachnique, but have you even considered trying to do what Bows44 has suggested? I agree wholeheartedly that He has indeed spoken to us through scripture as well as in His Son Jesus,(Heb 1:1-2) but He continues to speak to each of us today and THAT is indeed exciting - Imagine, the Creator of the universe cares enough about puny man to "speak" words of hope and words of love into our needy souls. This dear one recongizes something is missing in his prayer life - Wouldn't it be more edifying to just suggest that he seek God (just as Bows44 did) rather than to diminish or inhibit the potential of his enjoyment that can accompany an encounter with God. Isn't repentence one kind of response to such an encounter? There is joy in heaven over that - so someone gets excited, wouldn't you say? (Luke 15)I get excited when God speaks to me - we need to be encouragers of one another - to listen for His voice and not limit how or where He chooses to speak to us, yes even through prayer.
