NASB | Proverbs 1:7 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 1:7 ¶ The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline. [Ps 111:10] |
Bible Question: Do you think knowledge and wisdom are essentially the same, or is there a difference? (compare Prov 1:7 and 9:10) |
Bible Answer: Two Facts: 1) You can have knowledge without wisdom. 2) You cannot have wisdom without knowledge. Pro 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. You must read the Bible (gain the knowledge) to know to ask God for His wisdom. (Jam 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.) Once you've gained God's wisdom, then you'll understand. Jam 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Jam 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. |
