AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 1:7 ¶ The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline. [Ps 111:10] |
Bible Question: Do you think knowledge and wisdom are essentially the same, or is there a difference? (compare Prov 1:7 and 9:10) |
Bible Answer: Wisdom and knowledge are different. Wisdom is the power of true and right discernment. Knowledge is the result of knowing information or understanding gained through experience or learning, practical experience or skill. For example. We have the learned knowledge that enables us to open a bible and read it. But wisdom tells us what it means. Wisdom tells us how to use knowledge. A psychologist has much knowledge, but his wisdom tells him when to listen and when to talk. Knowledge is knowing, widom is applying it when, where and how. |
