AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 1:7 ¶ The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline. Bible Note: Joe, I rather like your group of old sayings, but I perceive they are from the Bible, and from what I've been reading on this forum of late, the Bible can't be trusted, according to dschaertel. And it has some problems with harmony among the gospel accounts, according to Jaknik. So what business do these quotations of yours from the Bible have on a StudyBibleForum anyhow, Joe? Somehow I have come to think that somewhere along the way we put the Bible aside and went on to things we CAN trust (as soon as we find out what they are), with each man feeling perfectly free to do what is right in his own eyes. [The foregoing is pure irony, and I know you recognize it as such, Joe, but others may not; hence, this explanatory note will serve to clear up any misgiving that I am being in the least disrespectful of that blessed old book the Bible, the word of God]. --Hank |
