Bible Question:
Matthew 4:1 "1 Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil." Teasted to see what? Jesus is God, why would he need to be teasted? Matthew 4:8,9 "8 Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." What was the Devil trying to test? Could God sin? Deuteronomy 32:4 "4. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." James 1:13 "13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:" jm |
Bible Answer: Greetings Jm! Thanks for your response! From your first question, I can already determine the nature of most of the questions you will have about the Trinity. Allow me to say this my friend, most of your questions will be answered by a proper understanding of the incarnation of Christ. Look at Phil. 2:5-11! This passage makes it very clear that the incarnation of Christ was real, and not just a sham. God took upon Himself a real human body. He placed upon Himself the real limitations of a human being. He even died a real death. None of these were things that God would have to do by nature, but because of the incarnation, He did experience them. So, to answer your question, the 2nd Person of the Trinty (the Son), could be tempted. He could get hungry. He could feel tired. He could not 'know' some things. He temporarily placed Himself into subjection under the Father. But, all of these things were a result of the incarnation. Now, what was Jesus being tempted to do? That is simple. He was being tempted to take the easy way out. The Man Jesus knew what His mission on earth was all about. He knew what the end result was going to be. How tempting it would be, as a man, to take a shortcut. :-) But, He didn't! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
