Bible Question: I am helping someone new to the faith understand some things about the Word. This person is having a problem understanding the Holy Trinity. Could you please help break it down to a more simple form so that I can help this person get a better understanding?? |
Bible Answer: Much has been written on the doctrine of the Trinity. It is a biblical doctrine. It is true. But is it fully understandable to someone new to the faith? Probably no more or no less understandable to a brand-new Christian than to a Christian such as I, a follower of Christ for 54 years. I do not presume to understand the Triunity of God. I come to the end of my tether long before I reach anything approaching a clear understanding of this biblical truth. But it is a truth about the nature of our transcendent God that is taught in His word. I believe it. I accept it. And I, should God choose, will understand Him better by and by. Any decent Bible dictionary will take a stab at defining the Trinity and do they best they can to describe the doctrine, but the wisest and best of Christian theologians consider this distinctive Christian doctrine a divine mystery beyond human comprehension to be reflected upon only through scriptural revelation. Human speculation on the Trinity, like human speculation on every other uniquely scriptural topic, leads nowhere. --Hank |
