842 | more about driving out demons | Hebrews | azurelaw | 193328
Dear BerBer, Welcome to the forum. You have responded to a post that was long time ago dating back to 2001. I doubt you will get an answer from the poster you are responding to. Meanwhile, can you elaborate more on your question as your responding poster was quoting a parable of Jesus' which in fact reproving the Pharisees. (Matthew 12:43-45) It was not a real case of driving out demons. Shalom Azure |

843 | understanding the book of revelation | Revelation | azurelaw | 193256
Dear Janice, The Book of Revelation has caused a lot of controveries in dicussing the end time events. There are some schools of thoughts developed. However, I do not fall into any of the categories. May I offer my below approach to the study. 1/ The genre of the book : letter with recipients (the 7 churches) 2/ Background of the readers, e.g. contemporary christians under tribulation. 3/ Historical background by the time John wrote the book. 4/ John's usage of symbolic concept from OT books (e.g. Exodus, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, etc) 5/ John's purpose of writing the book - comfort, strengthen and encourage the christians who were under tribulation by that time, rebuke the wrong doings of the churches (see the letter to the 7 churches), prophesying, etc. 6/ The layout of order. Contrasting the chaos on earth with the orderly worship in heaven. Message to the contemporary suffering christians : God is sovereign and in control. He will judge. We should persevere and endure to the end. First death is our physical death. Second death is for the unrighteous being put to the lake of fire on the judgement day. Just my 2 cents. Hope they are helpful for your understanding. I am still learning, too. Should you find anything wrong, I am open for correction. Shalom Azure |

844 | Abraham, Gods first choice??? | James 1:17 | azurelaw | 193253
Dear Mike, James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, WITH WHOM THERE IS NO VARIATION OR SHIFTING SHADOW. (caps are for my emphasis) God made the decision, then the choice was made. From Gen 11:26 to Gen 12:1, there is no indication about 1st or 2nd choice or 3rd... Next time you better ask that "someone" to give you scriptural support for the statement. Shalom Azure |

845 | Christ honoring position: wine/alcohol | 1 Cor 10:31 | azurelaw | 193251
Dear pastor63, Welcome to the forum. 1/ Drinking alcoholic beverage is not sin. John 2:1-10, Jesus changed water into wine at a wedding. Mat 11:19 Jesus rebuked the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. 1 Tim 5:23 Paul advised Timonthy to drink some wine for health's sake. 2/ Become drunk is sin. Rom 13:13 1 Cor 5:11 Gal 5:21 1 Cor 6:10 Eph 5:18 3/ Most importantly is that we should honour God and stumble not our brothers of less faith. Rom 14:21 1 Cor 10:31 Since the topic has been discussed before, you might want to do a word search for past thread. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

848 | Will God put on us more than we can bear | 1 Cor 10:13 | azurelaw | 193182
Dear ashelton, I believe most people make use of 1 cor 10:13 to convey the idea that God will not put more on us than we can bear. You have already noticed that this scripture talked about temptation. Temptations are also trials (in other sense) for believers to grow. But God does not tempt us (James 1:12-14). He makes use of our weaknesses to show His power and glory (2 Cor 12:9). Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

851 | how to deal with jealousy | John 13:34 | azurelaw | 193017
Dear Itrummer, Welcome to the forum. I believe Gal 5:19-26 is helpful to answer your question. Please pay attention to verse 24-26 - which is the method provided to deal with jealousy. Gal 5:19 Now the DEEDS OF THE FLESH are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20: idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, JEALOUSY, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21: envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22: But the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23: gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law 24: Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires 25: we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit 26: Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. (Caps are for my emphasis) Shalom Azure |

853 | Abel,s sacrifice acceptable, Cain's not? | Genesis | azurelaw | 192915
Verse 3: Cain brought "an offering" Verse 4: Abel brought "the firstlings of..." The contrast showed Cain's attitude was so much inferior to that of Abel's. Cain had no respect on God. Verse 5-7 revealed that Cain had pride in him and did not repent for he showed anger to God's refusal. He had something very wrong in his motive in offering sacrifice. Hope the above helpful. 857 | give and it shall be givin | Luke 6:38 | azurelaw | 192838
Dear Mike, Hope the below is helpful. Shalom Azure ****** The Lord's discourse is divided into several branches. Verses 20-26 The contrast between the remnant, manifested as His disciples, and the multitude who were satisfied with the world, adding a warning to those who stood in the place of disciples, and in that gained the favour of the world. Woe be to such! Remark also here, that it is not a question of persecution for righteousness' sake, as in Matthew, but only for His name's sake. All was marked by attachment to His Person. Verses 27-36. The character of God their Father in the manifestation of grace in Christ, which they were to imitate. He reveals, note, the Father's name and puts them in the place of children. Verses 37, 38. This character particularly developed in the position of Christ, as He was on earth at that time, Christ fulfilling His service on earth. This implied government and recompense on God's part, as was the case with regard to Christ Himself. Verse 39. The condition of the leaders in Israel, and the connection between them and the multitude. Verse 40. That of the disciples in relation to Christ. Verses 41, 42. The way to attain it, and to see clearly in the midst of evil, is to put evil away from oneself. (John Darby’s Synopsis of the Bible) |

858 | What is Jacob's trouble? | Genesis | azurelaw | 192794
Dear Grace, Subject to my previous post, I am sorry that I did not answer fully to the point. I hope the below additional information is helpful for your understanding of the topic. ****** "Here God speaks through His prophet Jeremiah, telling of the 'Great Day', concerning the brief but intense period of testing which shall come upon the Nation of Israel: 7 Alas! for that Day is Great, so that none is like it: it is even the Time of Jacob's Trouble, but he shall be Saved out of it. (Jeremiah 30:7)" (http://www.tribulation.com/prtjacob.htm) "Verse 7. Alas! for that day [is] great,.... For sorrow and distress: so that none [is] like it; such were the times of Jerusalem's siege and destruction by the Romans; and which was an emblem of those times of trouble from antichrist in the latter day; see Matthew 24:21;..." 860 | Explain Ephesians 3:5-6? | Eph 3:6 | azurelaw | 192714
Dear Grace, When you read through verse 1 to 6, it clearly talked about the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ has been extended to gentiles. The mistery of Christ lies in verse 6. Gentiles had no part in the Kingdom of God under the old covenant (see Ch 2 v 12).
