843 | Explain Ephesians 3:5-6? | Eph 3:6 | azurelaw | 192714
Dear Grace, When you read through verse 1 to 6, it clearly talked about the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ has been extended to gentiles. The mistery of Christ lies in verse 6. Gentiles had no part in the Kingdom of God under the old covenant (see Ch 2 v 12). Dear Tiffy312, It is quite possible that Tychicus brought the news to Paul in prison. See chapter 6 verses 21 to 22. Hope this is helpful. Shalom Azure P.S. Did you also register under ASMITH since you are asking the same question almost at the same time? |

851 | How to humble my self as a little child | Phil 2:3 | azurelaw | 194847
Dear Donald, Welcome to the forum. God speaks to us through His Holy Word - the Bible. (2 Tim 3:16-17) That is why the apostles urge us to study diligently God's Word. (2 Tim 1:13-14, 1 Peter 2:2) In concern with humility, Phi 2:1-8 is good for us to ponder. Matthew 18:1-16 relate to your question directly. I believe the below commentary from Matthew Henry is helpful: "The importance of humility. Verses 1-6 Christ spoke many words of his sufferings, but only one of his glory; yet the disciples fasten upon that, and overlook the others. Many love to hear and speak of privileges and glory, who are willing to pass by the thoughts of work and trouble. Our Lord set a little child before them, solemnly assuring them, that unless they were converted and made like little children, they could not enter his kingdom. Children, when very young, do not desire authority, do not regard outward distinctions, are free from malice, are teachable, and willingly dependent on their parents. It is true that they soon begin to show other dispositions, and other ideas are taught them at an early age; but these are marks of childhood, and render them proper emblems of the lowly minds of true Christians. Surely we need to be daily renewed in the spirit of our minds, that we may become simple and humble, as little children, and willing to be the least of all. Let us daily study this subject, and examine our own spirits." (by Matthew Henry) Shalom Azure |

853 | salvation | Phil 2:12 | azurelaw | 207832
Dear dcmartin, I think AMP version on the verse could be helpful. Here it reads: Phil 2:12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). Shalom Azure |

854 | What about the violence in the home? | Phil 3:21 | azurelaw | 213070
Dear humility, I pray that what you have described is not your own situation and the question is only a bible study one. Nevertheless, I hope the below scriptures are helpful:- Mal 2:16 "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with wrong," says the LORD of hosts. "So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously." Matt 18:15 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. Matt 18:16 "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. Matt 18:17 "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 1 Cor 7:4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 1 Cor 7:5 Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. God surely hates violence against a spouse and divoce. If the spouse is a believer, appeal it to your pastor as per teaching in Mat 18:15-17. If it still cannot be settled, as Keliy suggested, a temporary separation for protecting oneself from being brutally hurt is reasonable. Don't forget to pray for everybody involved unceasingly. Shalom Azure |

855 | I would like to know why euodia and synt | Phil 4:2 | azurelaw | 198102
Dear Lady, Welcome to the forum. There is no mention about the cause or reason of their disagreement. However, one thing is certain that they both helped Paul in his ministry (see Ch 4 v3). Paul did not rebuke their discord, but drew the attention of other church members to help them reconcile. In reality, even brothers and sisters are serving together in ministry earnestly, there always have disagreements. No matter what the causes are (be they of personality, way of treating things, etc.), I think Paul's focus and concern is to keep the unity of Christ's body and also build up the individuals from their weaknesses. See how Paul taught them in Ch 2 verse 1-5. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

856 | Rejoicing in The Lord | Phil 4:4 | azurelaw | 200144
Dear NightJay, Scriptures: Eccl 3:4, 10-11 Rom 12:15 2 Cor 6:10, 7:10 It does not literally mean to rejoice in every single second continuously 24 hours a day. I hope the below commentaries are helpful for your understanding of the scripture. ----- John Gill Phil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always,.... This is a repetition of the exhortation in the preceding chapter; See Gill on "Php 3:1"; with this addition "alway"; for there is always cause and matter for rejoicing in Christ, even in times of affliction, distress, and persecution; since he is always the same; his grace is always sufficient; his blood has a continual virtue in it, and always speaks for peace and pardon; his righteousness is an everlasting one, and so is his salvation, and such is his love; though some join this word with what follows, [and] again, I say, rejoice; this is what was continually inculcated by him, as being of great importance and use for the comfort of believers, and the honour of Christ. Phil 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord,.... The Syriac version reads, "in our Lord," i.e. Christ. …, he exhorts them in a most affectionate manner, as his dear brethren in a spiritual relation, that they would make Christ their chief joy; that whatever sorrow they might have on account of his bonds, … he observes they had reason to rejoice in their Lord and Saviour; …, yet Christ should be the principal object of their joy. A believer has always reason to rejoice in Christ; in the greatness of his person, he being in the form of God, and equal to him, and therefore able to save his to the uttermost by his obedience and death, and has interest enough in heaven to make his intercession prevalent and successful and power to keep safe all that are committed to him; and in the fitness of his person to be a Mediator, and daysman, to take care of things pertaining to the glory of God, and to make reconciliation for sin; and in the fullness of his person, he having all grace in him for his people, which is all theirs, and with joy may they draw water out of the full wells of salvation in him; and in the beauty of his person which surpasses all others, a sight of which fills with joy unspeakable, and full of glory. They may, and should rejoice, as they sometimes do, in his salvation; in the contrivance of it by infinite wisdom; in the impetration of it by himself; and in the application of it by his spirit; and that because hereby justice is satisfied, the law is magnified and made honourable, sin is finished, and an everlasting righteousness brought in. Also they are called upon to rejoice in his resurrection, which is for their justification; in his ascension, seeing he then received gifts for men; and in his session at the right hand of God, which is in their nature; and in his intercession which is to their advantage; and in all the relations he stands in to them, as head, husband, father, brother, friend; and in everything that is his, and that belongs unto him, as his Gospel, ordinances, ways, and worship... --------- Darby Phil 4:4 … "Rejoice in the Lord." If he even weeps over many who call themselves Christians, he rejoices always in the Lord; in Him is that which nothing can alter. This is not an indifference to sorrow which hinders weeping, but it is a spring of joy which enlarges when there is distress, because of its immutability, and which becomes even more pure in the heart the more it becomes the only one; and it is in itself the only spring that is infinitely pure. When it is our only spring, we thereby love others. If we love them besides Him, we lose something of Him. When through exercise of heart we are weaned from all other springs, His joy remains in all its purity, and our concern for others partakes of this same purity. Nothing moreover troubles this joy, because Christ never changes. The better we know Him, the better are we able to enjoy that which is ever enlarging through knowing Him. But he exhorts Christians to rejoice: it is a testimony to the worth of Christ, it is their true portion. Four years in prison chained to a soldier had not hindered his doing it, nor being able to exhort others more at ease than he. Shalom Azure |

Dear regina--, I feel terribly sorry to have learnt of your aweful situation. 860 | how do i get control of my will? | Colossians | azurelaw | 207704
Dear walkforchrist, I sure empathize your situation and pray that you gain strength from our gracious Lord day by day when you put your focus on Him and His Word. Your question reminds me of a citation from our Brother Doc in post 203695 which reads below: "I do not know of a single scripture -- and I speak advisedly -- which tells me to take my sin, the particular thing that gets me down, to God in prayer and ask Him to deliver me from it and then trust in faith that He will. Now that teaching is also often put like this: you must say to a man who is constantly defeated by a particular sin, 'I think your only hope is to take it to Christ and Christ will take it from you.' But what does Scripture say in Ephesians 4:28 to the man who finds himself constantly guilty of stealing, to a man who sees something he likes and takes it? What am I to tel such a man? Am I to say, 'Take that sin to Christ and ask Him to deliver you?' No, what the apostle Paul tells him is this: 'Let him that stole, steal no more.' Just that. Stop doing it. And if it is fornication or adultery or lustful thoughts, again: Stop doing it, says Paul. He does not say, 'Go and pray to Christ to deliver you.' No. You stop doing that, he says, as becomes children of God." --Martyn Lloyd-Jones Please read Roman chapter 5 and 6. Shalom Azure |
