862 | what do you have on psalm 139:15 | Col 1:16 | azurelaw | 218991
Dear Jeann, Here's a commentary on Psalm 139:15 by Charles Spurgeon: "My substance was not hid from thee. The substantial part of my being was before thine all seeing eye; the bones which make my frame were put together by thine hand. The essential materials of my being before they were arranged were all within the range of thine eye. I was hidden from all human knowledge, but not from thee: thou hast ever been intimately acquainted with me. When I was made in secret. Most chastely and beautifully is here described the formation of our being before the time of our birth. A great artist will often labour alone in his studio, and not suffer his work to be seen until it is finished; even so did the Lord fashion us where no eye beheld as, and the veil was not lifted till every member was complete. Much of the formation of our inner man still proceeds in secret: hence the more of solitude the better for us. The true church also is being fashioned in secret, so that none may cry, "Lo, here!" or "Lo, there!" as if that which is visible could ever be identical with the invisibly growing body of Christ. And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. "Embroidered with great skill", is an accurate poetical description of the creation of veins, sinews, muscles, nerves, etc. What tapestry can equal the human fabric? This work is wrought as much in private as if it had been accomplished in the grave, or in the darkness of the abyss. The expressions are poetical, beautifully veiling, though not absolutely concealing, the real meaning. God's intimate knowledge of us from our beginning, and even before it, is here most charmingly set forth. Cannot he who made us thus wondrously when we were not, still carry on his work of power till he has perfected us, though we feel unable to aid in the process, and are lying in great sorrow and self loathing, as though cast into the lowest parts of the earth?" 864 | when man fail to be committed to God | Col 3:5 | azurelaw | 194838
Dear Endie, If one does not commit to God, what does he/she commit to? Please understand that the meaning of idols do not limit to those of the men made images or statues. One who loves anything more than God, he/she commits idolatry. Col 3:5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Go onto v 6, it talks about the consequence (This should also answer your another question). Here are some more scriptures for you to ponder: John 15:1-8 Luke 8:4-15 2 Cor 6:14-18 Rom 8:5-9 Hope this is helpful. Shalom Azure |

866 | Who was Mark | Col 4:10 | azurelaw | 222261
Dear joycedorman, I suppose you mean the author of the Gospel of Mark. Church tradition consider him John Mark, Barnabas' cousin (Col 4:10), closely associated with Peter (1 Peter 5:13)thus penned the Gospel of Mark. No scriptural record shows that he was called by Jesus nor he had any special gifts. He failed Paul in his ministry and caused argument between Paul and Barnabas (Acts 15:39). However, he should have been restored later and Paul commended him (2 Tim 4:11). |

867 | COping with death in today's society | 1 Thess 4:13 | azurelaw | 193435
Dear Erick, Paul has affirmed the believers in the church of the Thessalonians with great comfort. 1 Thes 4:13-18 v 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. v 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. v 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. v 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. v 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. v 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. 872 | What's Pastor's Responsibility? | 1 Timothy | azurelaw | 191456
Dear pbp, The following scriptures should shed some lights on our understanding of a pastor's responsibility. 1 Timothy 3 1 Timothy 4:13-16 2 Timothy 2:24-26 2 Timothy 4:2-6 Titus Meanwhile, brother Doc's recommendation "Brothers, we are not professionals" by John Piper is worth reading. 873 | Dress code for women | 1 Tim 2:10 | azurelaw | 229117
Dear Bluemusic, Welcome to the forum. Though most people would say 1 Tim 2:9 (However, putting on accessories or fashion wearing could vary from culture to culture and age to age. It would be difficult to draw the line.), I think v10 should be heeded with much weight for this is what pleases God and beneficial to man. Please read the verses within its context on Paul's teaching. Shalom Azure |

874 | Adam and Eve Perfect or Flawed | 1 Tim 2:11 | azurelaw | 208125
Dear Cheri, The woman said to the serpent, "From THE FRUIT OF THE TREES of the garden we may eat; but from THE FRUIT of the tree WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it OR TOUCH IT, or you will die.’” (Gen 3:2-3) The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From ANY TREE of the garden you may eat FREELY; but from the tree of THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL you shall not eat, FOR IN THE DAY THAT YOU EAT FROM IT you will SURELY die.” (Gen 2:16-17) You see the diifference between the verses. I think they do not render the idea that Eve lied, but just that she was not entirely submissive thus expressing God's words her own way. 1 Tim 2:11-14 Shalom Azure |

Dear houstonc, I would like to suggest the below scriptures for you. 1 Timothy Chapter 3. In fact, Paul talked a lot concerning leadership in his letter to Timothy. You may be interested to read both 1 and 2 Timothy. Jesus also made a note for those who wanted to be the greatest (leader) in Matthew Chapter 23, verse 11 to 12. Hope the above helpful to you. 877 | standards for a preacher/biship | 1 Tim 3:2 | azurelaw | 187736
Dear ystallings, Welcome to the forum. When I am following the thread to read those posts, I have come across with Kalos post #171996 titled with "The Issue is Not Marital Status". Maybe you should take a look as I find it very helpful (at least for me). His post has clarified the questions I have in mind for years. I always feel sad about my brother who got divorced (Let me skip the details. It was not about adultery, he had tried his very best to secure the relationship, but could not change the mind of the woman) a year after being ordained as pastor. Following this is another strike, he was forbiddened to teach at his own church (for his divorce) where he grown up and loved so much. After years of struggle for recovery, he remarried to another woman (I believe she is sent from God). A very devoted and mature Christian. I thank God for sending him this blessing. Shalom Azure |

879 | father without a job | 1 Tim 5:8 | azurelaw | 238153
Dear berry, I have to agree with EdB that scriptures have no specific answer to your question except a number of it deals with laziness as EdB has quoted. However, since the world is so much complicated, there is always situation that the father is forced to be unemployed and unable to get a job or serve as food provider and the burden could be on the wife shoulders. The couple should discuss how to plan their family instead. I met a Christian couples who are good example. They have two boys and one is diagnosed Epilepsy. Since the mother has a much secure job, the father decided to stay home for child caring. Apart from taking good care of his children (including Bible teaching), the father has participated in some charity volunteer, led Bible study group, not ceasing to pray for their children. Now, the boy has much improved and the father is back to the workplace. He has never lost his leading status/role at home. I see how they have been trusting God and God's blessings has never ceased to pour onto them. "...whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31b) Shalom Azure |

880 | Why so some people treat pastors poorly? | 1 Tim 5:19 | azurelaw | 202873
Dear jweave, It is sad to see this happens at church. There are a number of verses talking about love among brothers. So, this also applies to pastors. In 1 Timothy 5:17 specifically mentioned that believers should have high respect to their ministers. 1 John 4:19-21 James 4:11-12 Hebrew 13:17 Col 3:12-17 Philippians 2:1-8, 14-15 Eph 4:1-16 1 Cor 1:10 Rom 12:9-18 Shalom Azure |
