864 | What is Jacob's trouble? | Genesis | azurelaw | 192705
Dear Grace, Do you have any specific verses in mind to question? Starting from Genesis 25 and the following chapters record a lot of Jacob's life. Perhaps the below incidents are what you are looking for:- 1/ Took the advantage (or opportunity) to get the birthright from his brother (Gen 25:30-31) 2/ Cheat his father Isaac to get his blessings (Gen 27:11-29) 3/ Played tricks to get wealth from his father-in-law Laban (Gen 30:25-43) I believe Jacob's trouble is being too tricky or an opportunist. These are just my 2 cents. I think others on the forum would have more valuable input to your question. Shalom Azure |

865 | Grace giving or tithing? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 192696
Dear Grace, Welcome to the forum. Since you are a new comer and might not be familiar with how the feature of the forum works, I would recommend you to consider the below in search of an answer for most of your questions: 1/ If you have a question concerning a specific verse (e.g. Genesis 1:1), you can type that verse in the "Question/Notes on Verse" (on the tope of the screen) then click "Go". It will show you all the past discussed threads (if available) at the bottom of the page. 2/ If you have a topical question, type the keyword you have in mind in the "word search" box at your right hand corner. It will show all the posts containing the searched words. Then you need to find the relevant topic discussed in the past. Though you might (sometimes) find it a tedious task in going through so many posts for getting an answer, I can tell you from my experience that you will learn a lot better and some posts or dicussions are interesting (or humurous, you will enjoy a lot). I've always come across with many wonderful and witty posts apart from my search of an answer to my original question. You will also find very helpful website recommended by other users in their posts and many of the websites are helpful for our bible study as well. In case you could not find anything relevant to you question, of course you need to ask. Many of the brothers and sisters are willing to help. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

868 | I had fainted | Ps 27:13 | azurelaw | 192488
Dear Raine, Please see below some background about David as to Psalm 27. To read more, you can go to : http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/psalm/gill/psalm27.htm ------ [A Psalm] of David. The Septuagint interpreters add to this title, "before he was anointed." David was anointed three times, first when a youth in his father's house; but this psalm could not be written before that time, because he had not had then any experience of war, nor could be in any immediate apprehension of it, as here suggested; he was anointed a second time, after the death of Saul at Hebron, by the men of Judah; before that time indeed he had been harassed by Saul, and distressed by the Amalekites, and was driven from the public worship of God, to which he has a respect, Psalm 27:4; and he was a third time anointed, by the elders of Israel, king over all Israel; and between the death of Saul and this unction there was a war between the house of David and the house of Saul; but what is referred to is not certain, nor is it of moment, since these words are neither in the Hebrew text, nor in the Chaldee paraphrase. Theodoret is of opinion this psalm was written by David when he fled from Saul, and came to Ahimelech the priest. -- John Gill's Exposition of the Bible ---------------- Shalom Azure |

Dear Mike, Excuse me that I have no idea on the captioned programme. My post is to give you some encouragement (hopefully) in your situation. I have read your past posts and I can tell you that you are not the only person in the world experiencing numerous backslidings. When I open my email this morning, I received the below message from DaySpring Blessings which I would like to share with you: "God wants you to move through this day with a quiet heart, an inward assurance that He is in control, a peaceful certainty that your life is in His hands, a deep trust in His plan and purposes, and a thankful disposition toward all that he allows. He wants you to put your faith in Him, not in a timetable. He wants you to wait on Him and wait for Him. In His perfect way He will put everything together....see to every detail....arrange every circumstance....and order every step to bring to pass what He has for you." --Roy Lessin Isaiah 40:31 Shalom Azure |

873 | is how we use our talents to be judged? | NT general Archive 1 | azurelaw | 192370
Dear JohnDisciple--, Hope the below add some insights to the discussion. Shalom Azure ****** Verse 31. When the son of man shall come in his glory,.... What is before signified in the two preceding parables, is here clearly and distinctly represented without a parable: and it should be observed, that as the foregoing parables only regard the Gospel church state, and the ministers and members of it, good and bad, or all sorts of Christian professors; so this account of the last judgment only concerns them; for though all men that ever have been, are, or shall be in every nation under heaven, from Adam to the last man that will be born, will be judged; yet the part or it here described, though it gives a general and lively idea of the whole, only regards the judgment and final state of such who have made a profession of the Christian religion……. Verse 32. And before him shall be gathered all nations..... That is, all that have professed the Christian religion in all the nations of the world, whether Jews or Gentiles, high or low, rich or poor, wise and foolish, such as have had greater or lesser talents; though it is also true of every individual of mankind of every nation, tribe and family, of every sex, age, and state, that ever has been, is, or will be. Yet Christian professors seem only here intended, as the following distinction of them, their final state, and the reasons of it show. This collection of them before Christ, the righteous judge, will be made by the holy angels, who will come with him for this purpose; and being mighty, as they are, will be able to accomplish great a work; and especially as being under the direction, influence, and authority of so divine, glorious, and illustrious a person, as the son of man will then to all appear to be. And he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: they shall be gathered before him, as they were together in their visible church state, as being all under a profession of religion; some wise, some foolish virgins; some sheep, and others goats; some industrious, diligent, faithful, and laborious servants; others wicked, slothful, and unprofitable ones; many of whom pass undistinguished and undiscovered now: but then the judge, who is of quick understanding, will easily discern the one from the other; such as have the oil of grace in the vessels of their hearts, together with their lamps, from such as have only the outward visible lamp of a profession, but destitute of the grace of God; and good and faithful servants, who have made a right use of their gifts, from such who have been negligent, careless, and remiss; and though these have been folded together, sheep and goats, in the sheepfold of the church, where they have all bore the character of the sheep of Christ; yet now when the chief shepherd appears, who knows his own sheep, and calls them by name, he will as easily separate the one from the other, and more so, than any shepherd, among men, can part a flock consisting of sheep and goats. Hypocrites in Zion shall now be no more, nor sinners stand any longer in the congregation of the righteous, nor both together as one body, and on one side in judgment. -- John Gill’s Exposition of the Bible |

Dear ernesto, My answer in short: As far as I know, there is no such scripture adressing the height of angels. Angels are messengers of God. Their powers are given by God. So, how powerful they are all depends on God's will. Read also Exodus, Revelation. Hope this hepls. Shalom Azure |

875 | Tie between Luke 7 and John 11? | Luke 7:36 | azurelaw | 192227
Dear Hawkeye, I assume you meant the women who poured perfume onto Jesus's feet. Below is what I have got - which I believe should be helpful: ****** And behold, a woman in the city,.... Not Mary Magdalene, spoken of in Luke 8:2 under another character; and is a different person, who had not been taken notice of by the evangelist before; nor Mary the sister of Lazarus, who is said to anoint the feet of Christ, and wipe them with her hair, John 12:3. The character given of this woman, does not seem so well to agree with her; at least, the fact here recorded, cannot be the same with that; for this was in Galilee, and that in Bethany; this in the house of Simon the Pharisee, that in the house of Lazarus; this was some time before Christ's death, and after this he went a circuit through every city and village, that was but six days before his death, and after which he never went from those parts; nor is this account the same with the history, recorded in Matthew 26:6 for that fact was done in Bethany also, this in Galilee; that in the house of Simon: the leper, this in the house of Simon the Pharisee; that was but two days before the death of Christ, this a considerable time before; the ointment that woman poured, was poured upon his head, this upon his feet: who this woman was, is not certain, nor in what city she dwelt; it seems to be the same in which the Pharisee's house was; and was no doubt one of the cities of Galilee, as Naim, Capernaum, or some other at no great distance from these: which was a sinner; a notorious sinner, one that was known by all to have been a person of a wicked, life and conversation; a lewd woman, a vile prostitute, an harlot, commonly reputed so: the Arabic word here used, signifies both a sinner and a whore; and so the word, sinners, seems to be used elsewhere by Luke; see Luke 15:1 compared with Matthew 21:31. Some think she was a Gentile, Gentiles being reckoned by the Jews sinners, and the worst of sinners; but this does not appear: when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house; having observed it herself, that he was invited by him, and went with him, or being informed of it by others... - John Gill's Exposition of the Bible (source: eword.gospelcom.net/comments/luke/gill/luke7.htm) ****** Shalom Azure |

876 | Living in Sin | Mark 2:1 | azurelaw | 192211
Dear believer---, First of all, do they know that they are living in sin and grieve for it? Are they will to repent though they lack the faith and ability? In what way they are willing to accept Christ? In Mark 2:1-5 Jesus still forgives the sinner who is unable to go to Him by himself but just by the help of his dear friends (like you). What a loving picture it is!!! See also John 8:3-12 While people were so eager to condemn, Jesus gave. Please note verse ll Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more." Verse 12: Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." I hope I have helped. Shalom Azure |

877 | onset of despair in early adulthood | Rom 8:28 | azurelaw | 192195
Dear Vinodh, Brother Lionheart quoted a very good verse Rom 8:28 and I praise God for causing all things work together such as the internet, this forum and the brothers and sisters participated here that we can all share your despair. Vinodh, you are not limited in your small town. See how God has exposed you to a wider world! When I read your post, the works of Jesus exhibited so vividly in my mind as described in the books of gospel. Our dear Lord and Saviour - Jesus Christ never ignores a needy soul. He takes particular concern on those who are being disgusted, forgotten, poor, sick, demon possessed.... The amazing works that Jesus had done were too many to be quoted (John 21:25). I urge you to pray, read and re-read and re-read the books of gospel, and I trusted that you will find a new world for yourself and changes will take place. Matt 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest, Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." You are in my prayers. Shalom Azure |

878 | Romans 11:35 | Genesis | azurelaw | 191964
Sorry begbie, I think my previous answer could be missing the point. My appology. Let my refine my answer and hope it helps. It is a "fact" that we are unable to repay (this supplemented by my previous post) God rather than a necessity. If we deem that we have the ability (even the slightest) to repay God, sinful men as we are, we will not humble ourselves in front of our God for we could count on our so-call good work. Ephesian 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may BOAST. Shalom Azure |
