882 | Stronger foundation in Jesus? | John 3:16 | azurelaw | 191769
Dear LJ777, Not sure what do you mean by "get a stronger foundation in Jesus Christ" as I see brother Jeff made a reply (post #190585) to your earlier post where he explained salvation through faith in Christ. If your concern is on spiritual growth, then you have to study God's Word every day, pray fervently and unceasingly and whenever the Holy Spirit guides you and work out what is taught in the Bible. Without doing these, there is no way to become stronger. For your blacksliding struggle, may I offer you Psalm 25 to meditate on. May the Holy Spirit guide you through. Shalom Azure |

886 | I want to get back to Jesus. | Rev 3:3 | azurelaw | 191699
Dear LJ777, When reading your question, the first thing comes to mind is the story of the prodigal son described in Luke 15. I believe the moment you had the above questions in mind was a sign of the Holy Spirit's work in you to urge for your repentance. C.H. Spurgeon has depicted a beautiful and loving picture in his sermon which I am glad to quote as an encouragement. ******** "And kissed him."—Luke 15:20. ...the subject of which will be, the overflowing love of God toward the returning sinner. The determination to return home is good; but it is when the wandering boy begins the business of really carrying out the good resolve, that he draws near the blessing. If any of you here present have long been saying, "I will repent; I will turn to God"; leave off resolving, and come to practicing; and may God in His mercy lead you both to repent and to believe in Christ! Before the kisses of love were given, this young man was on his way to his father; but he would not have reached him unless his father had come the major part of the way. When you give God and inch, He will give you an ell. If you come a little way to Him, when you are "yet a great way off" He will run to meet you. I do not know that the prodigal saw his father, but his father saw him. The eyes of mercy are quicker than the eyes of repentance. Even the eyes of our faith is dim compared with the eye of God's love. He sees a sinner long before a sinner sees Him. I do not suppose that the prodigal travelled very fast. I should imagine that he came very slowly— "With heavy heart and downcast eye, With many a sob and many a sigh." Slow are the steps of repentance, but swift are the feet of forgiveness. God can run where we scarcely limp, and if we are limping towards Him, He will run towards us. ******************** (to read more, go to http://www.biblebb.com/files/spurgeon/2236.htm) Shalom Azure |

889 | Why all people need the mercy of God? | Romans | azurelaw | 191608
Dear begbie, Since you have quoted the book Roman, may I direct you to the verse 23 on Chapter 3 "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," It is for this reason (see also v 11-12), we cannot escape from God's wrath unless by the blood of the Lamb as you can read on in v 24. Paul has deliberately explained that we, sinners, are hopeless and cannot do anything to save ourselves. It is solely by the grace of God through the faith given to us in Christ that we can reconcile with God. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8) "Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:9-10) So, when we were still sinners, we were sick (Mark 2:17), we were dead (John 3:16), we were the enemy of the sovereign God (James 4:4)thus were under God's wrath (John 3:36). Hope this helps. Shalom Azure |

892 | silent prayer | Matt 6:5 | azurelaw | 191506
Dear mike--, May I recommend the below scriptures for you: Mat 6:5-8 Luke 18:9-14 I don't see any scriptures demand us to pray aloud for getting the Lord's attention. If so, woe unto those who are dumb! Do we have to yell at Jesus? By the way, Jesus is not deaf as well. Meanwhile, praying aloud does not mean that you are praying truly and honestly. I am afraid I have to say that the person who told you that the Lord will not hear your prayer unless you pray aloud is just putting a stumbling stone onto you. (See how Jesus rebukes the Pharisees) Be it a silent prayer or a vocal prayer, we have to pray fervently, truly, trustingly, desperately and according to His will. It is our heart and attitude that matter not the prayer's audibility. You may do a word search for this subject which has been discussed on the forum in the past in order to get a better idea. Enjoy the forum and Shalom Azure P.S.: Several times I was so much in sorrow that I could not utter a word when I prayed. God listened to me. |

893 | why suffer in pain | 2 Cor 4:17 | azurelaw | 191459
Dear ronjescal, Your why question in concern with sufferings has brought my memory back to a TV special programme I watched 2 years ago which I like to share. One summer night, while I was working cozily in front of my computer with the air-cond on, a scene on the TV captured my sight when my daughter switched between channels. A programme (maybe produced in the U.S.) with the title "angel without face" presented a surgical case about a little girl who was born with abnormal feature - which I saw a head with some holes on it and you could not tell which are the eyes, nose, mouth. They are just holes. I was so much shocked and heart breaking. I tried to keep on watching the programme but serveral times I could not help to turn my sight away to calm down myself and swallow my tears. I finally failed to finish watching it and decided to swtich it off. Just like you, I asked God - why, why such an innocent child has to experience all the sufferings. How painful were her parents to see her suffer. I tried to find answers in the bible. I immediately recalled John 9:1-3 and the book of Job. Unfortunately, stubborn me was still not convinced. A week later, when I was on a bus and musing. The girl's face re-appeared. My eyes were blurred with tears. At that moment, God started to answer me. I saw that the face was no longer the poor little girl's but that is my own face (a sinner who has lost her God given face). My situation is much much more worse than the little girl that cost the blood of Jesus for remedy. How painful is our Lord and Saviour to see us in such a poor situation! What can I say but silent myself with a thankful heart and pray for God's grace and mercy to empower my walk with Jesus. Thanks for your time to read my post. Shalom Azure |

895 | How should we Pray? | Matthew | azurelaw | 190769
Dear roscoe12, Welcome to the forum. There is a well-known teaching about prayer in Mat 6:5-15. Jesus also made a parable in Luke 18:9-14 to warn us from being self-righteous in our prayers. There are times when we pray, our focus could be on the ill-doings / wrong doings of others but not the focus on our own sin. You may also read 1 Thess 5:16-18, Col 4:2. The below sermon of C.H. Spurgeon concerning prayer should be helpful, too. http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/1039.htm Shalom Azure |

898 | saved seems lost sometimes | Psalm | azurelaw | 190563
Dear sqkeener1955, There is no single answer to your question. I would suggest you read the books of Job and Psalm. You will see that even the perfect men could experience a backslide in their lives. Rom 7:18-25 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

900 | Should Christian men wear a beard? | 1 Chr 19:5 | azurelaw | 190551
Dear Bearded Bro, I do not see any scriptural support to forbid a christian man wearing a beard. In fact, beard was regarded as a man's honour in OT time. Are you having troubles for wearing beard, Bearded Bro? Shalom Azure |
