801 | Name questions God has asked. | Gen 3:9 | azurelaw | 195365
Dear Mark, Welcome to the forum. God does not need to ask for getting to know anything. He does not need to ask questions for Himself. But those seemingly questions asked (actually the word "SAID" is used in the scripture) by God appeared in Gen 3:9-13 and Job chapter 38 (there should be more, I just cite these 2 scriptures as examples) are for the sake of the persons being asked. 808 | Why is pride a sin? | Proverbs | azurelaw | 194876
Dear Charles, Brother Michael has quoted you some scriptures to affirm you that pride is a sin. However, you have to discern your heart if you are acting as a sharing of joy with your friends and relatives, or you are just boasting for your own success instead of glorifying God. Please also note that on the other hand, pretending to be humble is hypocrisy (also a kind of pride, Chinese is very good at it). "The truly humble man never feels that he has sufficiently abased himself before God. He feels that however low he bends, he could bend lower. He always feels that he is above his proper position before God. He looks at his position, and looks at where he should be, and he appears at a great distance from it. He calls the distance 'pride'. It is his pride that appears to him to be great, not his humility. It does not seem to him to be a great sign of his humility that he should lie in the dust at the feet of God. He thinks that is exactly where he belongs. ... do not forget to apply these things to yourself. Does it offend you when someone thinks himself a better Christian than everyone else? Do you think he is proud, and that you are humbler than he is? Then be careful, in case you become proud of your humility! Examine yourself. If you conclude, 'It seems to me that no-one is as sinful as I am,' do not be satisfied with this. Do you think you are better than others, because you admit that you are so sinful? Do you have a high opinion of this humility of yours? If you say, 'No, I do not have a high opinion of my humility, I think I am as proud as the devil,' then examine yourself again. Perhaps you are proud of the fact that you do not have a high opinion of your humility? You might be proud of admiting how proud you are!" - Jonathan Edwards **************************** Mat 7:1-2 1 Cor 11:31 My last question, how old are you? :-) Shalom Azure |

809 | How to humble my self as a little child | Phil 2:3 | azurelaw | 194847
Dear Donald, Welcome to the forum. God speaks to us through His Holy Word - the Bible. (2 Tim 3:16-17) That is why the apostles urge us to study diligently God's Word. (2 Tim 1:13-14, 1 Peter 2:2) In concern with humility, Phi 2:1-8 is good for us to ponder. Matthew 18:1-16 relate to your question directly. I believe the below commentary from Matthew Henry is helpful: "The importance of humility. Verses 1-6 Christ spoke many words of his sufferings, but only one of his glory; yet the disciples fasten upon that, and overlook the others. Many love to hear and speak of privileges and glory, who are willing to pass by the thoughts of work and trouble. Our Lord set a little child before them, solemnly assuring them, that unless they were converted and made like little children, they could not enter his kingdom. Children, when very young, do not desire authority, do not regard outward distinctions, are free from malice, are teachable, and willingly dependent on their parents. It is true that they soon begin to show other dispositions, and other ideas are taught them at an early age; but these are marks of childhood, and render them proper emblems of the lowly minds of true Christians. Surely we need to be daily renewed in the spirit of our minds, that we may become simple and humble, as little children, and willing to be the least of all. Let us daily study this subject, and examine our own spirits." (by Matthew Henry) Shalom Azure |

810 | analyze the paralyzed man his healing | Mark 2:1 | azurelaw | 194843
Dear cantymantwo, I believe you meant Mark 2:1. This is one of the many touching scenes in the scriptures that I love. Nothing said in the scripture that the paralyzed man played an active role. He was totally in the passive mode in his salvation. He could not help himself nor come to Christ. (Eph 2:8-9) Next was the four men carrying him to the Lord. Their faith and love (v. 5) strove them to overcome all the difficulties and disturbances lied ahead in order to bring the needy soul to be saved by Jesus. This always makes me ponder the way, the mind when we are in the mission of preaching the gospel or bringing the unbelieve to Christ. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

811 | when man fail to be committed to God | Col 3:5 | azurelaw | 194838
Dear Endie, If one does not commit to God, what does he/she commit to? Please understand that the meaning of idols do not limit to those of the men made images or statues. One who loves anything more than God, he/she commits idolatry. Col 3:5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Go onto v 6, it talks about the consequence (This should also answer your another question). Here are some more scriptures for you to ponder: John 15:1-8 Luke 8:4-15 2 Cor 6:14-18 Rom 8:5-9 Hope this is helpful. Shalom Azure |
