764 | why does Elisha need music to intercede | 2 Kin 3:15 | azurelaw | 197402
Dear Rachel, I believe whoever attempts to make a response holds certain level of sincerity and is willing to help. Why not rephrase your concern a bit more friendly such as requiring for a biblical answer? I hope the below answer would not be viewed as silly nor guesses :-) "Verse 15. But now bring me a minstrel,.... A piper, a man that knows how to play upon the harp, as the Targum; according to Procopius Gazaeus, this was one of the Levites he ordered to be fetched, who was used to the spiritual melody of David, and could play on musical instruments as he directed. This he did to allay his passion, and compose his spirits, ruffled at the sight of Jehoram, and to fit him to receive prophetic inspiration, which sometimes came upon the Lord's prophets when thus employed, see 1 Samuel 10:5. Some think the music the prophet called for is that sort the Greeks call "harmony," which is the gravest and saddest, and settles the affections: and it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him; the spirit of prophecy, as the Targum, which came by the power of God, and as a gift from his hand" - John Gill's Exposition Shalom Azure |

768 | He owes it all | Matt 22:39 | azurelaw | 197080
Dear Grace, Thank you for the question. It touches my heart. I have nothing to give Him. I tend to avoid making promises like that at a specific time though I understand the Preacher Man just wanted to encourage believers to have a better focus or goal (perhaps). To me, not this Christmas nor any Christmas, but every single second should be Christ-centred. NOTHING is mine, thus I cannot give Him anything. How awesome is our Lord that He gives us this second greatest commandment on Mat 22:39 that He foreknows we can do nothing for him except through our love and care toward our neighbours. I have been serving in the choir for many years. In the past I thought I was serving God (what an erroneous thought it was), finally I realised that God does not need anyone to serve Him. I understand that our ministry at church provides us chances to receive the numerous blessings He pours onto us - we are not the givers but the receivers. Just a bit of my sharing. Shalom Azure |

770 | Matthew 10:34 Do not think that I have t | Matt 10:34 | azurelaw | 197005
Dear Woman, Welcome to the forum. Hope the below from John Gill's exposition helpful to you: "...... By the "sword" may be meant the Gospel, which is the means of dividing and separating the people of Christ from the men of the world, and from their principles and practices, and one relation from another; as also of divisions, discords, and persecutions arising from it: not that it was the intention and design of Christ, in coming into the world, to foment and encourage such things; but this, through the malice and wickedness of men, was eventually the effect and consequence of his coming; see Luke 12:51 where, instead of a "sword," it is "division"; because the sword divides asunder, as does the sword of the Spirit, the word of God." 771 | missing pages? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 196945
Dear Michael, I would not recommend the disposal of a bible only because of some missing pages. It can be well re-cycled and usable by breaking it down to individual books as we have seen those being sold on the market in thin and handy books of the NT separately. You might just add the covers to it by DIY so that you can carry it along during travel for your convenient study on the individual books. **Just imagine : there are thousands and thousands of people who have not read a single page of Bible nor even heard of it. Shalom Azure |

773 | living in sin(out of wedlock) ministry? | John 3:16 | azurelaw | 196759
Dear delivered, I agree with you that we are His witness thus we should be mindful to our behaviour. Speaking the truth in love (Eph 4:15) though sometimes difficult but necessary. We have to be careful not to give devil any opportunity (Eph 4:27) - although this verse talks about handling of anger within the context, I think it can also apply to all situations to remind us stay away from temptation. Here are some more scripture to admonish your christian friends:- We are His witness (Mat 5:13-16) We live for the glory of the Lord and the good of his neighbour. (1 Cor 10:23-24, 31-33) Watch and pray that we do not enter into temptation. (Luke 22:46, Mat 26:41, Mat 6:13) Shalom Azure |
