821 | did satan enter lucifers heart? | 1 Cor 15:21 | azurelaw | 229105
Dear hooper, There is no scripture mentioning Satan enters Lucifer's heart. As Biblicalman has explained that within the context of the Bible passage, Lucifer refers to the king of Babylon, thus it is merely a human being. Since we all know that human hearts were long perverted when sin entered into the world because of Adam's disobedience, the result is that human inherited the sinful nature. In that sense, what we (sinners) do is according to our nature thus acting as an adversary of God. Shalom Azure |

Dear mrxike, The sweet small or fragrance is the analogy Paul used to describe the Gospels and our witness of Christ. It should not be referred to as our physical smell as you have depicted. The below commentary from John Gill should be helpful for your understanding: "For we are unto God a sweet savour,.... Here a reason is given, why the savour of the knowledge of God in Christ is made manifest by the ministers of the Gospel, because they themselves are a sweet savour; not that they are so in themselves, for they have the same corrupt hearts and natures, and complain of them as other men; but as having the gifts and graces of the Spirit of God, comparable to fragrant and sweet smelling ointments, Song of Solomon 1:3, by which they are enabled to preach the savoury doctrines of the Gospel, and to adorn and recommend them by their exemplary lives and conversations: the allusion is to Aaron and the priests under the law, who were anointed with the anointing oil, which was poured upon their heads, ran down upon their beards, and descended to the skirts of their garments, so that they were all over a perfume, a sweet smell and savour; and so are the ministers of the word, being anointed with that, which the other was typical of. They are said to be a sweet savour of Christ, because they have their gifts, grace, and Gospel from him, and he is the subject of their ministry;..." I heard of an expert (perfumer) mentioned that the memory that triggered by the smelling sense lasts the longest comparing to our visual and audio sense. |

823 | why suffer in pain | 2 Cor 4:17 | azurelaw | 191459
Dear ronjescal, Your why question in concern with sufferings has brought my memory back to a TV special programme I watched 2 years ago which I like to share. One summer night, while I was working cozily in front of my computer with the air-cond on, a scene on the TV captured my sight when my daughter switched between channels. A programme (maybe produced in the U.S.) with the title "angel without face" presented a surgical case about a little girl who was born with abnormal feature - which I saw a head with some holes on it and you could not tell which are the eyes, nose, mouth. They are just holes. I was so much shocked and heart breaking. I tried to keep on watching the programme but serveral times I could not help to turn my sight away to calm down myself and swallow my tears. I finally failed to finish watching it and decided to swtich it off. Just like you, I asked God - why, why such an innocent child has to experience all the sufferings. How painful were her parents to see her suffer. I tried to find answers in the bible. I immediately recalled John 9:1-3 and the book of Job. Unfortunately, stubborn me was still not convinced. A week later, when I was on a bus and musing. The girl's face re-appeared. My eyes were blurred with tears. At that moment, God started to answer me. I saw that the face was no longer the poor little girl's but that is my own face (a sinner who has lost her God given face). My situation is much much more worse than the little girl that cost the blood of Jesus for remedy. How painful is our Lord and Saviour to see us in such a poor situation! What can I say but silent myself with a thankful heart and pray for God's grace and mercy to empower my walk with Jesus. Thanks for your time to read my post. Shalom Azure |

825 | Will God predestinate you a mate? | 2 Cor 6:14 | azurelaw | 209186
Dear 4everblessed, As far as I could recall, there is no scriptures specifically stating God choose a particular mate or person for a believer except 2 cases - one is Adam and Eve as you have mentioned and the other is Hosea and the harlot. However, we have to understand the 2 cases within its context. Adam and Eve are the first parents designed by God in the Creation. Hosea and the harlot Gomer (God did not even tell Hosea to take Gomer, but a harlot) is God's intention to reveal His love and faithfulness toward the rebellious and adulterous nation - Israel. However, scriptures do provide guidelines for believers' marrying. See: Deut 7:1-4 2 Cor 6:14 Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

826 | A mate from God | 2 Cor 6:14 | azurelaw | 222193
Dear Child of j, Brother Beja has given you an excellent answer. He expressed so well where the wife's struggle is!!! You have no idea what the torture is and how heartbreaking it is to be a wife of an unbelieving husband (read my profile). Don't make the same mistake as I did. God is absolutely clear in 2 Cor 6:14. Obey or you will have to take the consequences. Despite my rebellious behaviour in marriage, God has been so gracious to me that my husband does not forbid me to go to church and I even can serve as a deacon. I am not merely praying for my husband's salvation, but also he would someday devote himself to serve the Lord with me. Shalom Azure |

827 | I want to know if I have to give my thit | 2 Cor 9:7 | azurelaw | 189106
Dear Marbella, Congratulations and welcome to the family of God. Don't worry too much about your English. I am not a native English speaking person for I am a Chinese living in Hong Kong. Brothers and sisters here at the forum are kind, patient and loving to help you study the bible as what they have done to me. Concerning your questions, please see the below scriptures I would like to offer: 2 Cor 9:7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Mark 12:41 And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. Mark 12:42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Mark 12:43 Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; Mark 12:44 for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on." Keep on studying His Word. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

830 | 2COR 12:3 AND ACTS 8:39 RELATED? | 2 Cor 12:2 | azurelaw | 232011
Dear trujc003, Paul was talking about his own experience in a third person. Read the whole chapter and you will find that Paul humbled himself and refrained from boasting such a special revelation. Your guess on Philip is unlikely possible for Philip baptized the Eunoc around 34A.D. and Paul wrote 1 Corinthians around 55A.D. It is more than 20 years time lap in between(not 14 years). 831 | forgiveness | 2 Cor 13:5 | azurelaw | 189317
Dear NightJay, Brother lionheart has given you very good answers. May I add a little bit of my thought. I had watched a movie few months ago where the main character was so overwhelmed with his vengeance that he was on his way to kill his enemy. His girl friend asked him to stop, but he could not. So the lady decided to leave him on the scene even the man begged her to stay by saying "I love you". However, the lady replied, "What is left with you to love?" I don't mean that you are outraged with vengeance and I do believe you are ready to forgive, I just want to borrow the concept that "Be our heart filled with bitterness, what is it left with to love?" I think, in order to forgive others, we have to first forgive ourselves that leaving no bitterness in us. Just see how Jesus forgives us so willingly and dearly. I will pray for you, dear brother. I know it hurts (my experience did tell me). Shalom Azure |

832 | background on Galatias | Galatians | azurelaw | 207779
Dear stamuel, Welcome to the forum. The old Saints speak much much better than we do. Here is a very brief introduction on Galatians by Matthew Henry. "The churches in Galatia were formed partly of converted Jews, and partly of Gentile converts, as was generally the case. St. Paul asserts his apostolic character and the doctrines he taught, that he might confirm the Galatian churches in the faith of Christ, especially with respect to the important point of justification by faith alone. Thus the subject is mainly the same as that which is discussed in the epistle to the Romans, that is, justification by faith alone. In this epistle, however, attention is particularly directed to the point, that men are justified by faith without the works of the law of Moses. Of the importance of the doctrines prominently set forth in this epistle, Luther thus speaks: "We have to fear as the greatest and nearest danger, lest Satan take from us this doctrine of faith, and bring into the church again the doctrine of works and of men's traditions. Wherefore it is very necessary that this doctrine be kept in continual practice and public exercise, both of reading and hearing. If this doctrine be lost, then is also the doctrine of truth, life and salvation, lost and gone." 833 | facing the problem | Ephesians | azurelaw | 194019
Dear Michael, I believe the below scripture helpful to both of you since you said your friend is a Christian. Ephesians 4:17-32. My suggestions would be: 1/ Pray for them. 2/ Admonish your Christian friend in private with scriptures. 3/ Continue to be a good testimony for Jesus. Explain to your pagan friend that Jesus still loves despite we behave poorly. (Matt 9:13) Hope I have helped. Shalom Azure |

838 | The gift of tongues | Eph 1:1 | azurelaw | 226705
Dear Crys, Base on what you have said and the excellent answers to you from both Brad and Beja, I couldn't help but urge you to consider what Beja suggested "...to flee this church and go to a sounder more scriptural church...". It is not only what your pastor teaches is not biblical, but also his attitude ("... He totally blasted me out of the water and said no way") toward your loving heart to speak to him in private for clarification on his teaching. This proves that he does not deal with God's Word faithfully or tend His flock properly, furthermore, he appears to be arrogant. Shalom Azure |

840 | Die unexposed to Jesus no redemption? | Eph 1:5 | azurelaw | 186431
An echo to Rom 1:19-20 with a Chinese perspective May I add a little bit of my thought (though I am not an expert). The English word "righteousness" is expressed and developed into Chinese by using "pictograph" and "meaning borrowing words". Perhaps some of you may already knew that Chinese originally develop words with "pictograph". A very simple example is the Chinese word meaning day. Ancient Chinese drew a circle representing the sun and put a dot in the centre. Then we have the word "day" in Chinese. For the English "righteousness", this Chinese word is composed of the upper and the lower part. The upper part was developed from the "drawing of a lamb with fire burning underneath" - this symbolizes the meaning of sacrifice (now, you see how it represents the work of our dear Jesus, though the ancient Chinese did not know Jesus). The lower part is the Chinese word means "I". Therefore, the interperation is that by the sacrificing of the Lamb, we (I am) are able to be called righteous. So, we can see before the gospel was spread to China, God has used His own way to reveal Himself to different nations in the ancient time. Shalom Azure |
