61 | Face Value or Not | Gen 1:1 | Scribe | 85893
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. They can be taken for face value. As long as we are speaking of the face of the looking glass of scripture and not our own definitions of the words. If we define "keep silence" as the other "keep silence" that has been mentioned just a few verses before concerning men, we understand it means, don't talk when you should not be, not don't talk becuase you are a woman. It has to do with disruption of the service. Not saying anything about the details we do not know about but only sticking to the text itself we have Paul saying to those that speak in tongues to do it two or three in a service and then only if there is an interpreter, if not "KEEP SILENT" in the church and let him speak to himself and to God, then we have Paul saying to those that would give a prophesy.. do so two or three and if one is speaking the other should "KEEP SILENT" then he gets to the women who would ask questions and they are told to "KEEP SILENT" and if the reader is following the flow and logic of the admonition he immediatly understands that it must refer to some type of "confusion" or interuption that was being caused by the asking of questions. Then we understand that the spirit an theology of the rest of the new testament does not "jell" with a rule that would suggest that as soon as women walk in the church they must not utter a sound until they leave does it? Of course not, so we know that it must be about interuptions and confusion which is what the whole chapter deals with. May God Bless You as You Look into the Face of the Mirror of the Word and are Changed Day by Day. |

63 | In Gen.46:27, the number is 70, why? | Acts 7:14 | Scribe | 85859
This is not a contradtiction. Genesis 46:26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were threescore and six; [Here he lists 66 that came into Egypt becuase Judah was sent before him] Genesis 46:28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. Genesis 46:27 Genesis 46:27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten. Exodus 1:1-5 Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. So the seventy are not including Joseph and family which were in Egypt already. Joseph his wife, his two sons make 74.. I still do not have 75 but maybe I missed something like Judah who went before? Not sure, I will have to rework it later. It is there, there are no contradictions in scripture and not mistakes, only mistakes are with the readers. :) |

64 | What about those who never hear gospel? | Prov 24:12 | Scribe | 85857
Romans 2:14-15 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) First of all the Lord knows whether a man really "knew it" or not because he knows the deepest parts, that part of the conscience and will of man and how that person did indeed sin against that knowledge. The scripture in Romans is a scripture that applies to all gentiles including the poor native in the jungle. He knows by instinct what is right and wrong. And when he has violated that conscience he has sinned. The fact that he has not heard about Jesus simply means he has not heard about the details of how God provided a remedy for sin. All natives in all jungles have violated their conscience at least once and have chosen to do what they knew was wrong.. therefore as it relates to their rightstanding with God on the basis of whether they have kept the inner moral instinct that they knew, their conscience will convict them as law breakers. Let me repeat ... their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another..In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. In that day what will their conscience do Excuse them or Accuse them? Without fail it will Accuse them. For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. Now lets answer the question, "What if said jungle native realizes he is guilty of not being true to the inward knowledge of what is right and decides to spend the rest of his days seeking to do well." Now he has not heard of Jesus, but it is certainly the Spirit of Christ that has motivated him to do right. The man seeks to make restitution, for wrongs done. He is not necessarily trying to make himself acceptible before God, he is simply feeling bad about that which he did to his neighbor that he wants to try and make right somehow. So he goes to the neighbor and pays him 3 monkeys trying to ask forgiveness. He will find as a result of this sincere desire to do right that his conscience is quickened a little, and light or illumination will be granted him. The more he seeks to do right and with the knowledge he has, seek justice, such as take up for the abused around him, he will recieve more light. Soon God will direct the man to a village or something where as if by "accident" he will come upon a missionary who will point him in the way of Christ. Or such a man might even recieve a dream by God telling him what to do whereby he must be saved. Acts 10:2-6 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do. There are many many scriptures that teach us that those that seek to do well will certainly be given the understanding of Faith and will be saved. They will not be saved because they do well, but their desire to do well will bring them into the light and will allow them to hear. Those that choose to do evil will be driven to darkness and their rebelion against their conscience will cause their conscience to eventually be seared so that they cannot hear. The fact that many jungle native, refuse to seek to do what their conscience tells them they ought to do, does not make them innocent but rather guilty. |

65 | Was she suppose to tell? | Num 23:19 | Scribe | 85856
As you read through the Gospels you will notice this type of thing occurs often where Jesus tells someone to tell no one who He is. This seems confusing to first time readers because they do not understand the explanation he gives for why. He does give the explanation as "my hour is not yet come" What does this mean? Jesus was careful to not draw attention to himself, he even told many not to tell others that he was the Christ, not because he wasn't as some cults might try to say, but becuase ultimatly he would be crucified for mankind (his hour) and he did not want it to be said that any of the things that he would do that would fulfil all prophesy were contrived in anyway. If he was trying to push himself forward and assume the role of the promised messaih (as many had done before him) he would have done what they did and what his brothers told him to do, reveal himself to all and make these public proclaimations. But instead he is seen taking a more secluded role and so in the end it demonstrates that it is God that was in control and no man could say that Jesus tried to fit his life into prophesy but instead all that was fulfilled in Him was truly the prophetic fulfillment. |

66 | Not possible | Gen 4:22 | Scribe | 85846
I am not following you. It is evident in archaelogical findings that "metal" was worked with before 1500BC. Maybe the use of the word Forged is causing a misunderstanding. I believe that there are more than enough findings of metal that was heated and worked with or beaten into shapes before 1500BC. I don't think you can read more into the word Forged than is there. If we have an idea of such a word being a particular type of system of working with metal that was perfected later, that is not a proper definition of the word forged. The exact methods of how he worked with metal are not give, this word simply means he worked metal into useful things. |

67 | Please explain this verse? | Mark 9:1 | Scribe | 85844
Mark 9:1-3 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 2 Peter 1:16-18 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. Peter says that he saw the Glory and Majesty of the Coming of the Lord in Power when he saw Him transfigured on the holy mount. So we know from that, that Jesus was saying that the some of them was Peter James and John. They saw in the transfiguration and type of what we all will partake of when we are changed in a twinkling and are glorified and rise and meet the Lord in the air when Jesus comes again. |

68 | can I have both? | Mark 11:23 | Scribe | 85784
both what? The prerequisite is to seek first His Kingdom. If you are consumed with Christ, there is nothing left for you to consume of yourself. If you are dead to self you are not concerned with self gratification. If Jesus said these things will be added to you if you first seek Him, and Jesus also said Take not thought for what you should eat or wear etc, then it is obvious that as you are busy seeking the Things of God He will take care of you. He will take care of your housing. If He as taken care of it, don't seek a bigger one, instead seek His kingdom, leave your physical needs up to him. Flee from the flase teachers of today that try and teach that material gain is the measure of faith. This is not the gospel but an anti-gospel and when the Lord comes back many of those that say they have faith will be told they have none. True Faith seeks His Kingdom, which is all about loving others and serving others, it is about seeing souls saved and delivered from sin. It is about being holy yourself and more like Christ day by day, whether you live in a tent or in a house. The true gospel says if you have more than you need, sell it and give to those that have need. It is harder for a rich man to enter into heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of the needle because, few rich will give their riches to those in need. Justification for hording wealth will ring from the rooftops until Jesus Comes, but many will be ashamed in that day. May God keep us from covetousness and help us give of our abundance to our brothers in need. |

69 | How do you "honor" lying parents? | Matt 23:9 | Scribe | 85779
The meaning of the commandment is that you should give them the honor of parents. If while growing up under their authority the child should respect their authority and not speak evil of them because they have rules. They are parents and have a duty to God to do their best, it is sinful for the child to act angrily toward them or hold bitterness because his flesh is being curbed by their rules. Now as an adult your duty is to show honor if the parents are old and feeble and need help. For instance, the parent may have lived in wickedness, they may not be a christian, but if they are old and feeble you are still to show honor in that these people were instrumental in bringing you into the world and took care of you when you could not take care of yourself, it is your duty to take care of them when they are old. If you do not you are guilty of not honoring your mother or father. If the parent is not feeble and is insisting that you agree with them about somthing that is foolish or sinful you can simply seperate from them without showing dishonor.
70 | Can I really have what I say? | Mark 11:23 | Scribe | 85774
Mark 11:20-26 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. It is amazing how much revelation is in the context and yet how often preachers build their doctrines of verses divorced from the context. If we see that unforgiveness will cause God not to hear us then we see that the idea of asking what we will has to do with a proper spiritual request. In my opinion we could say that if I were to ask the Lord to give me the ability to forgive someone I could be sure that if I have faith I will indeed have forgiveness for that person. Or if I ask that I could be free from a besetting sin, though it have deep roots like this fig tree, I can ask and believe and will see that thing dried up from the roots and be gone. If I say to this mountain obstacle that is blocking my growth in the Lord or my vision, (such as the log in my eye) be removed and if I have faith like the widow who continously went before the judge, I will have victory, I will be free, I will have whatsoever I ask. If a man asks for things that he may consume it upon his lusts, Jesus never meant that he would get that, James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. So we know that there is a balance, and what is that balance? Spiritual treasures, that is what we are to seek. I will claim a deeper walk of Love, what will you claim? :) |

71 | What is praying in the spirit? | 1 Cor 14:14 | Scribe | 85772
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. To pray in the spirit in this context is to pray in tongues. |

72 | How to get new language? | Mark 16:17 | Scribe | 85770
Dear jbw, Let's take a closer look at your question. When you say that "you heard" that you "must" speak in tongues. I have to ask where you heard this? Certainly not in the scriptures. I am not aware of a verse that says you MUST speak in tongues. There is one that says this... Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; So if you believe certain signs can follow you. To say one MUST speak in tongues we would have to say one MUST cast our devils to be saved. Now that would be a silly doctrine wouldn't it? Or one MUST drink deadly things. We know that Paul is an example of taking up a serpent unawares on the Island of Mileta and shaking it off and feeling no ill effects, so that others heard the gospel from him as a result. Shall we say that becuase God has promised to protect us even miracously on the mission field that one MUST take up serpents to be saved? I suggest that you read through the book of Acts and underline every reference to the baptism of the Holy Ghost and the gift of tongues. Then read 1 cor 12-14 and also Rom 12. After reading carefully and meditating on them allowing God to reveal things to your spirit, pray before and after and during your meditation. Then when you have a handle on all these scriptures tell me what you think the Word says. I will not add anything to the subject until you tell me what the Lord has shown you. But I must warn you to forget what men have taught you. Start fresh and study the scriptures only. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. Also I would like to add, concerning Baptism in the Name of Jesus or Father Son and Holy Ghost do a search on this post for my previous posts about what "in the name of" means. |

73 | What was the importance of flies? | Ex 8:21 | Scribe | 85765
It is possible that most of the plagues were a fitting judgement against things the Egyptians in their idolatry held sacred. For instance frogs being sacred to them might have been a message that, that which they worshipped in their idolatry the Lord gave them as their judgment. There has been research done to try and identify an Egyptian God for each of the plagues but I don't think it is that simple. Sort of like an abundance of gold in a famine among those that live their life chasing money would be a fitting judgment. The prophecies speak of a day coming when men will throw out their Gold in the streets because it cannot save them from the wrath that is upon them. |

74 | Rev. 19:10 - "spirit of prophecy"? | Luke 4:1 | Scribe | 85760
Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The angel is saying that this whole prophetic book is a revelation of Jesus Christ, that all that it says speaks of the Glory of Christ, He is the one that is worthy of our worship. The Holy Spirit in our heart is given to us to testify of Jesus Christ. John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Actually all prophecy even in the Old Testament has behind it the testimony of Jesus Christ. |

75 | Questions on the Divine Nature | 2 Pet 1:4 | Scribe | 85756
John 6:49-63 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The Words of Christ hidden in our heart and a commitment on our part to obey them and live them (by His Grace and enabling power, or having faith that he will grant us what we ask, to make us into His image day by day) is the eating of the flesh and drinking of the blood. The lords supper is an act of faith that helps us "confess" what we beleive, but it is the internal prayer, commitment, and repentance, the exercise of faith to do what we know the Lord is showing us in His Word that is the actual spiritual eating of the body and blood. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. If a man trusts in the act of taking the symbolic bread and wine as doing something to him, and then goes off to live the same as he did the day before indifferent to the areas of sin God has put his finger of conviction on, then that man is no more a partaker of the divine life as the man that does not eat the bread and wine and in all reality the calloused soul that trusts in the act of eating the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper to impart some magic on him while he continues to sin, is in danger of an early departure from this life. 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. The bread and wine of the Lord's Supper requires discernment.. (interpretation of it's true meaning) and the meaning is "I am going to go all the way with You Lord, dieing to myself and living unto Christ." We need this often confession and commitment and so it is good to do it everytime we meet. But if at anytime we are going through the motions without the internal commitment we are not profiting from the act but rather in danger of judgment. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. |

76 | can a women preach and teach men | 1 Tim 2:12 | Scribe | 85754
I did not actually address the concept of a woman being a pastor in my previous posts. I was focusing on a woman preaching or teaching in a church. Now we all know that teaching and preaching is done by more than just the pastor. However let's take a look at the concept of pastoring. I believe that it is God's plan for a man to pastor and a woman to pastor if she is the wife of the pastor. For instance if a woman is called and gifted to pastor she can do so under the authority of her husband as the senior pastor. This is very common among our churches. There are many great churches that owe their success to not just the ministry of the Male Pastor but to the Wife of the Pastor who does as much work in the area of counseling, teaching, and many other ministry gifts as her husband. And sometimes these wives of pastors teach better than their husbands. I know of a couple in my church, the husband and the wife both graduated from bible school. I have heard both teach. The wife is one of the best teachers I have ever heard, and very humble and submissive to the authority of her husband. As it relates to the image of Christ I think she is one of the better examples in our whole church. Let's look at this through the eyes of the Spirit of the Word and not the letter of the Law. Let's say you have a missionary woman that is in a country like Afghanistan and she is busy doing the Lord's work and many converts are coming to Christ. This scenario is very realistic and not a "what if" that does not occur, but one that is occurring now all over the world. This woman is ministering the Word to these new converts and for a while there is no man to be a pastor. You may call her a missionary, but in all truth she is acting as the pastor of the new congregation. If the Lord raises up a male pastor among them in time, then she will hand that over to him and continue with her calling. But to say she cannot lead that flock in the mean while is not for us to say. When we do that we are legalistic scribes and pharisees and are missing the point. If a woman in america just decides she will start a church and be the senior pastor, I do not think she is going to have many wise men among her congregation because they will not be comfortable with a woman pastor because of the scriptures that lead us to believe God's method is for men to be pastors. There are certain women in the church today that are trying very hard to bring to the church a new understanding of scriptures concerning women in ministry. These women believe that from the middle ages and even since the reformation that the scriptures concerning women have been misinterpreted. I personally do not think it is that complicated. In short I think God is not bound by legalistic rules concerning gender, but that God will use a woman any time He wants to and who are we to say He won't. But I believe that there is an order in the kingdom of God, that the man has been given authority to lead and serve the woman and that the woman should submit to the spiritual leadership of the man. If the woman ministers the word she should do so under the authority of the pastor. This does not mean a woman cannot preach in the pulpit. The Lord Jesus Christ brought us freedom from bondage, therefore whatever the concept of the women being under the authority of the man must mean it must be a concept of freedom. If you teach it in such a way that limits the womans ability to share the gospel with everyone she comes in contact with you are in error and missing the spirit of the teaching. God Bless You as You Study His Word. |

77 | seals and bowls happen at about the same | Rev 8:1 | Scribe | 85731
Revelation 8:1-2 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. There are some that say that the seventh seal, includes the next 7 trumpets, as the seventh trumpet includes the next seven vials, so that they are not chronological and followe each other sequentialy, then there are those that say that the seventh seal revealing the seven trumpets means that it is a repeat summary of events that were not covered in the angels narrative during the first pass of the seals and so he is explaining more things but tranfersing the same ground, and so with the seven vials. I think when you read the events under each that the chronological makes more sense. |

78 | need help .spiritual dryness | John 21:16 | Scribe | 85727
John 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 1 Peter 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: Notice here that Peter who was called by Jesus as a shepherd, and told to feed the flock, has a revelation of feeding the flock being most importantly of all the Word of God. I cannot pass judgment on your particular church but I am speaking generally concerning why some churches are dry and boring and the members feel like attending is a test in endurance. A common reason is that the shepherd is either not called to feed the flock or is neglecting his chief duty. What does it mean to feed the flock. It is obviously a broader subject than what can be entered here in this short post, but I will summarize the picture of the shepherd that will not want for spiritual growth in his flock. If a man of God will make Prayer and the Ministry of the Word his chief concern so that he will shut himself up with God and allow the Holy Spirit to make him a broken and contrite vessel emptied of self and seeking only the Glory of Christ, and if he will study the word as a man that seeks treasure, then God will grant him not just another sermon but a fresh word from heaven, though the doctrine he preaches may be as old as the church, the freshness will come forth as a message from a prophet, and the people will be challenged to go all the way with Christ in a new way as never before. This is not something that God holds back from men, but few are willing to pay the price to seek it. As someone once said, "Salvation is indeed free, but everything else will cost you something." When Peter said to feed the flock he meant feed them the Word. Peter considered the Word more necessary than daily bread, (as the Lord said) and Peter said that as desperately as a newborn babe needs milk, so a saint needs the word to grow. (Which verse had nothing to do with preaching elementary messages or weak sermons, or to speak on the level of a Christian just saved yesterday, but this verse speaks of the comparison of the desperate need for the Word of God to survive. In other words teaching a deep message of an abundance of scriptures and doctrinal truth is just as much feeding the sheep as preaching the simple messages we call "milk" but which Peter never called milk. This verse is telling us how important it is to eat the Word. If we understand this we will understand that if our sermons are too light and fluffy and contain little scripture, we are not feeding the flock at all. Some would say.. but the new Christians cannot handle the "strong meat and must be given milk," which is not from this verse bur another context where Paul is rebuking them for that. If Paul rebukes them for it, it is not our goal to keep our flock in that condition. In public preach on the level of the mature and the immature will grow up into it by hearing it. This lesson seem so hard for so many to learn. The majority of churches are anemic when it comes to feeding the flock the Word of God. We would call meat what Paul called the first principles of the oracles of Christ. I do not say any of these things with criticalness but with grief in my soul, knowing that the return of Christ is at the very doors, and it is high time to awake out of sleep and preach a challenging message that will shake the people from their indifference before it is too late. The pastors are taught to be loving and kind to the point that they are afraid to preach a challenging message of repentance. It is not the Love of God shed abroad on our hearts by the Holy Ghost that makes them this way, but a human sympathy not wanting to hurt any ones feelings. This at times is commendable but we must learn to have the Love of God motivate us and give way to human emotions that make us uncomfortable when it comes to rebuking in love the indifference in the flock. When the pastor does this with a heart of Love the people welcome it and they are helped to repent and break free of the chains of lethargy that have them bound. They will love the pastor for it, and sheep will come from every part of the city to join such a church. |

79 | MAny are called - not All are called??? | Matt 22:14 | Scribe | 85702
Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. The Context of the verse makes the meaning very clear. Jesus gives a parable of a wedding invitation. The call went out to the Jews and they rejected it and even beat and killed the prophets, The call now goes out to the gentiles and everyone else.. Matthew 22:8-9 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. The Call is to all which is not a contradiction of saying many. If the call is to all, then it is also true that the call is to many. And yet few are chosen. Now here is the sobering part. there are many that come to the wedding thinking they are ready for it. And they are rejected.. I personally believe that it has to do with faith in Christ which cleanses us from sin and makes us live holy. The Cheap Grace message that says holiness is not important, leaves some with a false sense of security that they can indulge in their sins and still be let into the wedding feast in that day because they "go to church" and they "believe in Jesus" which is not the same kind of faith that saves. |

80 | can a women preach and teach men | 1 Tim 2:12 | Scribe | 85701
Part 2 0f 2 Now to add to this, we see here that prophesying in the church was allowed and encouraged by Paul but told to do it in an orderly manner two or three at the most and let the other judge, or in other words he says, the spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet and so the other has the power to wait to give his prophecy and not interrupt another. We have heard different interpretations of what this prophesy means. Some say it is like the charismatic gift of prophesy spoken by the modern charismatic church, others say it is the same as preaching the word. Some say it is neither and is passed away. That is another path to explore, but for now consider that regardless of your view, it was certainly some form of speaking and and had to do with ministry. Now if Paul had taught that a woman was not allowed to partake of this then Paul would be contradicting the Holy Spirit, and we know that is not true. Let me give another verse to help make this clear. Acts 21:8-9 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. This reference in Acts is in no way a negative about the daughters but a glorification of God. This is a testimony of the Holy Spirit continuing to be poured out on all flesh as Peter preached in Acts 2. I have never heard a scholar yet (though there may some) that have ventured to suggest that these daughters prophesied with any different prophesy than that which is spoken of by Paul in 1 Cor 14 when he is giving instruction on how to prophesy in order in the church. So we have a meeting of saints, a local assembly here in Acts 21 and we have 4 daughters of Philip who prophesy with the same gift. Now these are women, and they are speaking in ministry of prophesy in the church. If you are going to say that was different because it was not preaching or teaching, then you have to at least change your view that prophesy is the same as teaching and preaching the word. If you’re willing to do that then you are going to have to deal with what this prophesy is that Paul said we should all earnestly desire. But again regardless of your view of prophesy, it was speaking and it was ministry and it was in the church. So Paul could not have meant that women cannot minister in the Church, but rather they should not be disruptive. 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 1 Corinthians 14:29-30 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 1 Corinthians 14:33-35 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. All three exhortations to keep silent or not speak is not about a ban on ministry by gender but an instruction on how to minister in order. We can also read verses like these Acts 18:26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. That show that Priscilla was used to teach a man that was considered mighty in the scriptures. We have to also look at the whole spirit of New testament Theology. We know that Jesus freed us from the legal restrictions spelled out under the Levitical law of such things as the woman having to be secluded at certain times of the month and many other burdens too numerous to mention. We know that Jesus brought to us who are born again an understanding concerning a walk of Love that will fulfill all the Law. We know that it is not within the spirit of the Gospel of Christ to put women into a legal rule of bondage that has no meaning or purpose. This is why it is so obviously a misinterpretation. When men quote “women should keep silent in the church” and “I suffer not a woman to teach” and carry it out as some kind of New Testament Law after the order of the Levitical Laws, they are obviously taking the phrase out of context and also adding their own understanding such as “Teach the Word” which is not what it says. May God bless you as you study His Word. |
