1 | How does one Master sin? | Gen 4:7 | Scribe | 142295
Romans 6:11-14 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. It is a daily walk. Jesus taught us to pray concerning this day only. Deliver us from temptation. This is the first step, a heart crying out to God through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that His abundant Grace is available to overcome the temptation. By passing through the temptation, without falling, we thereby gain strength over "him" that is the devil and the power of sin which is in our flesh.. this sowing to the spirit day by day will give us a strength that is greater than the temptation, and it then becomes no temptation. However there are so many of these individual battles of the flesh, that we must always fight this war against the various enemies of the "land" and never let our guard down. Praying always and interceding for the saints who also are in this battle with you. May God bless you in this holy war fare and grant you one hill of conquest after the other until you rule and reign with Him in that day for ever and ever. |

2 | based on 1 Corinthians 5 | 1 Cor 5:5 | Scribe | 104753
Wow. What a refreshing post. Willing2change4ic you're desire for change is from the Lord and evidence that God is working in a mighty way in your life. And as the Lord convicts you with His Holy Spirit of Love and goodness you find you are more and more miserable when indulging in the flesh. The Lord is faithful to make you miserable so that you will be through sinning and seek to know the Lord in righteousness and faithfulness. 1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Better for us to flee from sins of the flesh but if after we have known the goodness of the Lord and walked in the light of salvation, if we return to the carnal appetites of the flesh, we find out two truths very quickly. 1) we are not past sinning. And 2) though it may bring a temporary pleasure even that is not the same as it used to be and we are miserable even while indulging. If we keep it up the Lord will allow the powers of darkness to bring desctructions into our lives to discipline us. There is no need to experience that. Your own misery drives you to the cross for forgiveness and repentance. Your own desire to walk with God and know his light and life in fulness makes you not able to go all the way into sin. So you may fall and indulge, but if you repent and cry out to God in repentance, He will hear and deliver you from your own appetites. Do not despair. Though you might feel despair, shame and as if you have gone too far to ever be used by God, remember that you can be set free by His Grace. You can walk in holiness consistantly. You can have victory over ever vice. What once seemed to revisit you every few months can be something that never rises again so long as you live. The Lord is able to do this. All you have to do is believe and call upon him with fervent faith. Tell the Lord that you will not give up. Tell Him you believe He is able and you refuse to doubt it. After all what choice do you have? If you return the way of sin.. You will regret it. You know you will.. there is no peace nor happiness there.. Since you know you will regret it, everytime you fall, the next time you are tempted, just say.. This time I am going to say no, it is not worth the regret that I know will come, before the day is over or even the sin is finished I will be in regret, but if I choose to obey I will experience joy. Joy is far better, I will live a life without regret. God bless you willing2. You are going to make it and you are going to overcome. |

3 | What is the most accurate version? | Bible general Archive 2 | Scribe | 104374
I am teaching a Bible Study on Bibliology. I have been doing research on this for several months now. I am not a Greek and Hebrew Scholar, not yet anyway. And I do not think even 4 years of Greek and Hebrew in a Bible College qualifies a person as superior to the calibur of the scholars of the KJV, but nevertheless after having read many books from men that were far more qualifed to judge on which English translation is closest to the original text (the copies of the original text that is) the consensus seems to be that the NASB is the most accurate if you are going to go by the "oldest manuscripts in extant that we know of" But the KJV is the most accurate if you are going to go by the MOST (majority) of texts in existance. Now being that I believe God has preserved His Word, for Jesus said His word would not pass away, then I have felt more comfortable in my faith and peace in my spirit that the MOST manuscripts were a better measurement. And we do not know if in the future an older manuscript than the Codex Vaticanus and Codex Siniaticus might be discovered in a cave somewhere, and what if these older copies agreed with manuscripts that the KJV scholars used, would we be so surprised? I would not. But I am not one to say that this is for sure the case. I may be mistaken and the NASB might be the better version. But for now I have more faith that the KJV is the most accurate and I also recieve more revelation from the Lord when I read that version than any other. But that is a matter of personal and subject experience and nothing I can use in a debate, other than to say "that's my story, and I'm stick'n to it." May God Bless you as you study His Holy Word. |

4 | What is it, about Jehovah's Witnesses? | Bible general Archive 2 | Scribe | 104370
I think the main purpose of the forumn based on the policies you can read, is that of giving Bible answers to Bible Questions. It does not matter if the person asking the question is a JW or a Mormon, or any other cult, if they ask a bible question like "What does this verse mean?" people will give answers. The fact that many can give answers who are not your typically "trained" theology graduate, is a wonderful thing. The answers by the "untrained" are often some of the best given becuase they approach it in a very logical way, looking at the context and using common sense, they are often not using "filters" taught to them to interpret a passage. Yes there are going to be some strange answers and answers that are wrong, but they come from both the "trained" and "untrained" However over time what you have is a huge database of answers and insight by a particular verse. That is if people will post the right verses when they ask or when they answer a question. I am glad this is not the "Kingdom of the Cults" Forum, there are plenty of debate forums for that, and I am sure the JW who is attempting to convert a christian is already aware of those forums. If they really want an answer they should word their post as an honest question and they will find there are many that will give them an answer.
5 | Rapture - Bodies or souls disappear? | Matt 24:27 | Scribe | 104356
1 Corinthians 15:51-55 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? I have not read the Left Behind Series. But the Bilbe makes it clear that when the event occurs that happens in 1 Corinthians 15 (rapture would be a quicker way of saying it but for those that take offense to using the word rapture I have adopted "The event the occurs in 1 Corinthians 15" sort of wordy especially if you have to say it several times) When this even occurs, it clearly states that our current bodies are glorified into eternal bodies. So we will rise up in perfect glorified bodies. This was not a new doctrine, but Paul was expounding and making clear what was already prophesied but shrouded in mystery in some Old Testament prophets. Whether this occurs at the beginning or more judgements being poured out on the earth, or whether this event in 1 Corinthians 5 occurs after all judgment has been poured out is more like another topic, let us never ever say that the event in 1 Corinthians 15 will not occur or is some spiritualization for being born again, or say it is when an atom bomb drops on us, let us make at least a dogmatic stand that a supernatural event will occur for some generation of believers at some point when they will not die but be instantly made perfect WITHOUT DYING and rise in glorifed Bodies and ever be with the Lord. If any man says this will not happen, consider him unqualifed to teach on eschatology at all. |

6 | Theological Question | James 1:25 | Scribe | 104078
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. Let me first make it clear that on many occasions in the New Testament we are also told that we will be blessed if we obey the Lord. So it is not only an Old Testament saying. As to persecution, that also is a blessing. Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. It may be that a person not used to thinking in eternal things may think that being persecuted is a curse, but Jesus calls it a blessing, because to be persecuted for your faith will also cause you to recieve eternal rewards. The person who thinks in eternal scope of things really believes eternity is just around the corner and they know that any temporary persecution in this life, even if it last your whole life (which is rare) is less than a blink of an eye compared to the eternity that awaits them. Theologically God has set things in such a way that the saints will be persecuted for their faith and testimony. Why? Because God wants to bless you. With eternal reward. Why? Because persecution weeds out the fakers, and shakers, and false brethren and generally leaves only the true saints purified as gold. God Loves you and wants to sift out of you things you may not realize are needing to be sifted. Nothing like a healthy dose of persecution to see if you are loving and kind or full of the wrath of man. And we know that wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Many do not experience persecution today and so they teach or say that not every generation of saints suffer persecution but just sometimes in history there will be such times and we should be lucky we are not dealing with it now. I say they are in error, all godly shall suffer persecution and if they do not know any or have never known any it could be that they should examine whether they are living godly. In this generation those that live like the disciples in Acts, who would preach publically as they did ,and contend with false teachers or call men to repent, or who will travel the world in missionary fervor will suffer persecution. Just ask them, they will tell you it is so today as well as then. May God bless you as you study His Word. |

7 | Do you try to find what a verse means? | Luke 10:26 | Scribe | 104075
I know that some questions do not have only one answer. I read scriptures about a particular topic that to me are so plain in context not only of the passage but in combination with all other passages on the topic. And yet I consistently here or read those that use words like "what doe the text Say" explain something the text does not say. Often men who say they only go by what the Word says, say they believe something the Word does not say. The word does not say it but they beleive that is the interpretation of a certain subject. When presented with scripture only and asked to imagine that they had never been to church or heard any teaching on religion and they were cast on a desert island and had only the bible and read it, What does logic suggest they would think at first reading when they read a certain passage, if they are willing to be honest with themselves they will confess that at first reading they would think something that is not what their denomination beleives. But then they quickly add that as they studied the whole bible they would concluded otherwise. But maybe not. Maybe their "conclusion" is not based on studying the whole bible but on years of being taught what the Bible means. It is a good question and I think that the answer is given in the teachings of Christ. Jesus often explained that having understanding in the spiritual things of God or the Kingdom of Heaven is directly related to our heart response toward honest repentance and submission to God. There must be a willingness to admit we are wrong and God's way is best even if it means we will be kicked out of our denomination if we believe it. Only then will we be given more light. But if faced with what in our hearts we know to be probably the correct interpretation of the clear word for word text we decide to side with a denominational teaching that we think might be the wrong one..we stop the light at that point and will not be able to really move on with God in the true spiritual things He wants to show us, until we deal with that error. We can be saved, and if that is all we care about then we will not try to clear it up. But the spiritual man will feel a sense of nagging suspicion that he is not siding with the Lord and it will drive him to his knees and his heart will cry out for knowledge and thirst for the truth, and the Lord will be faithful to give it to him. But many do not cry out nor thirst with fervency and God does not owe it to them to reveal it. It is easy to read a passage and give your opinion. No man has to seek knock and ask for that. It is no wonder that there are so many that do not agree, when there are so many that do not seek. Seek for it as hid treasure said the writer of Proverbs and we glance at it between coffee cups and the morning news. But those that seek out the truth with a heart cry of hunger and faith that will not be denied until they awake in His likness will come away in agreement with one another. God Bless You as you study His Word. |

8 | Not far from the kingdom of God? | Mark 12:34 | Scribe | 104072
Yes. Great Question. One of my favorite passages. This passage follows a "Truth Stream" in the bible I refer to as "the law of illumination" The attitude of this man. Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? Se this scribe realized that Jesus was giving good answers, and he was honest enough to concede to those answers as being better than what he had learned. Instead of trying to trip Jesus up or ask Him something to try and accuse Him, this scribe really wanted answers and was willing to listen to them. THis is what made him "Open" to more light. Jesus explained in many ways to his dicsiples how that those that had the right heart would have understanding and those that did rejected knowledge would be hardned. This is really what it boils down to. Let the theologians argue till Jesus comes, those that obey the Lord and keep coming to the light will get more light. Those that refuse to repent and harden their hearts will be driven to darkness. Mark 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. Now I do not know if this Scribe got saved or not, I think he did, but the point here is that when a person honestly seeks to know the truth, they will approach the Kingdom of Heaven in proximity if they keep seeking they will find. If any native in the remotest jungle honestly seeks to know God they will be introduced to Jesus. Hallelujah! May God Bless You as you study His Word. |

9 | Are we listening to each other? | John 12:32 | Scribe | 104068
PART 3 OF 3 I am amazed that they even try. If they honestly do not believe in the charismatic movement they ought to be true to their convictions and reject their music also. But the fact that they are willing to accept the music to attempt to draw people (who are turned off by the vain inscincere ritualism of their tradition) exposes the very reason why they are not open to the Charismatic doctrine in the first place. They love the praise of men and not the Praise of God. The praise of men delights more in intellectualism of grand words in an old hymn than in the scripture being sung on a harp. The Praise of men will not allow them to do anything “radical” like life their hands toward God in worship, and the Praise of men makes them ignore the sound doctrine of saying that the Gifts of the Spirit are still available to the church today and replace it with a made up explanation (not doctrine) that the Gifts were in the Church then but now we have the Bible and do not need the Gifts. They no that it is risky business to state that we do not need something The Holy Spirit gave the first church, but their conscience is quited by words (not even smooth words but shaky and sketchy words) from their teachers and books that say that Paul chided the Corinthians for speaking in tongues, so they also chide men for speaking in tongues. Well enough said for now I will take up the subject again at a later post. May God bless you as you Study His Word. |

10 | Are we listening to each other? | John 12:32 | Scribe | 104067
PART 2 OF 3 These songs were written and sung by Charismatics as a better way to express Real Worship from the heart toward God instead of empty vain ritualistism. Charismatics or Pentacostals, (I refer to those that believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as a separate and additional work of Grace available to those that are Born Again) believe that we should not let what people think about us hinder us from doing biblical things to express our enthusiasm for the Lord such as Lifting hands toward heaven as an act of faith and surrender. Not that we have to but that we want to. And so their music is also heart felt and expressive. Charismatics or those that believe that the Gifts of the Spirit mentioned in Acts, I Corinthians, Romans etc.. are still available for the church today as they were active in the church then (charismatic is a shorter way of saying that) believe that a Christian should be lead along by the Holy Spirit in worship. In a church that believes in the Leading of the Spirit a common experience is that you will be worshipping the Lord, maybe your eyes are closed maybe not, you might feel like (have the desire) to just lift up your hands toward the Lord and tell Him how much you love Him, and then at another moment you will sense you should be quite and listen to the Lord, and the Lord will just drop a thought or remind you of a scripture that you need.. at that time you are feeling the desire to be quite, you may suddenly notice that the song leader just started singing the song slower and lower, much quieter and he may be repeating the same phrase over and over, but it is the perfect thing to do at the time. The song leader did not communicate with you but yet, because you are all allowing the Spirit to control the flow of the worship service it seems as if he felt the same desire to be quiet when you did. You cant help but just break out in a smile and think “wow, God you are awesome” and as you allow yourself to be moved by the Spirit you experience God in more than just intellectualism. Intellectualism is great. And I bank everything on the written word. A person who has not experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or does not attempt to operate in the Gifts of the Spirit will not understand the emotional worship of a charismatic church. They will see the repetition of a phrase as fluff. But there is another reason they might think so. It is more likely that they have not been in a charismatic church where this type of song was originated and seen it being sung in the setting of a group of sincere believers that are expressing heart felt worship and being lead by the Spirit. (and no I am not talking about Benny Hinn). But more than likely those that take offense to the repetition of chorus music are hearing it in a mainline denomination who have tried to make their music more “upbeat” and “modern” to attract a “younger crowd” and so they have instituted “traditional worship times” and “contemporary worship times” The difference being the music they are playing (and I say playing because many of their congregation do not sing just stand there) is borrowed from the charismatic movement. But now since they do not believe that the Gifts of the Spirit are still in operation today they do not operate in the same faith in those gifts as the charismatic church so they sing the songs with a different heart and mind. They sing them as though they are just words to listen to and learn doctrine from. Well then they might be disappointed, and certainly bored at any repetition. Why be repetitious when the Spirit is not leading you to. Then you are just making the poor congregation suffer a test of endurance. And if 90 percent of the congregation is reading their bulletins or standing there looking bored, the song “as the deer panteth for the water so my heart longeth after you” just does not seem to fit. The worship leader might mean it but the rest of the people act like they don’t have a clue as to what he is talking about. The reason is that you have a Charismatic born song that works great in a congregation that are charismatic, being sung in a church that does not believe in the gifts of the Spirit and for what? So they can get the congregation to worship the Lord with new fervor? No so they can draw a younger crowd. It is cursed. It will never work because the motive is wrong. It is flesh. 11 | Are we listening to each other? | John 12:32 | Scribe | 104066
Part 1 of 3 I would say that having considered our use of worship songs in the church I have come to the conclusion that as in all areas of our relationship with Christ that the best path to take is that of faith. What I mean is that when we worship the Lord in spirit and in truth scincerity and honesty should be expressed toward God in such a way as we individually have faith and understanding, or knowledge to walk in. If a person is well read in the Old hymns and that is what produces faith and expressions of heart felt worship toward God for him then they should do that. But it is not love nor understanding to think that all other people will also be moved by the same hymn. Some who are at a different place in their faith are almost offended by some of the words in some old hymns that others find inspiring. So if a brother or sister is full of faith and praise toward God giving a heart of thanksgiving toward God by singing, "Lord I lift your name on High.. Lord I love to sing your praises" and he sings it 7 times or 717 times, If he is from his heart thanking and Praising God, then it is far better than singing 100 Traditional and Theologically Rich hymns with your mind on the football game or business or God forbid the pretty woman two rows away. There is much more I could say about that but let me say what I most want to say. I have observed many things in the church in the past 24 years. And one of the most interesting and puzzling phenomenons is this area of contemporary worship music in mainline evangelical denominational yet not charismatic or pentacostal churches. You see having not attended church or been involved in religion growing up, I was saved in prison and had no knowledge of form or style of worship when I was first saved. I would read the Bible and the Holy Spirit would illuminate my understanding as to how I should live for God from the scriptures. I saw that Jesus and his disciples sang hymns so I asked for a hymn book and received a book of traditional hymns. The first song I learned was “Precious Memories” I never really liked it, but it was the only one that someone in the cell block I was at knew the music to. Then someone taught me the tune to Amazing Grace which I had never heard before either. I would pray and sing one of these hymns almost daily as a ritual because I was trying to do what Jesus did. Then one day someone visited me and taught me “This is the Day that the Lord has Made” well compared to the Amazing Grace you might think that the simple little song “This is the Day that they Lord Has made” is 7-11, but my worship time was transformed into something wonderful and non ritual when I sang it for two reasons. One I was singing the Word, the song was just a Psalm put to music, and to me was more supernaturally edifying than all the words of Amazing Grace put together. See Amazing Grace might be a wonderful song and the words of the writer might be considered classic and genius, but they are nothing compared to one sentence of God’s Word. Give me one sentence of God’s Word taken from the Psalm and I will sing it 7 times 70 more than words of men no matter how intellectual they seem. The other reason this type of song produced more spiritual growth and maturity in me than the intellectualism of the old hymns was that I was singing from my spirit and not just my head. If you worship from the spirit it does not matter if you only have one phrase from the Psalms , it is enough. Granted there are some songs that are not from the word or even contrary to the Word that I do not think we should be singing, but they are not that common, and I would say there are more of those in the hymnals than in the modern chorus music that is so popular. I personally do not sing songs in church to teach other, nor do I sing them as a means to learn, I sing to worship God. If singing songs is a good way to pass on doctrine to your children then we should sing some of the old hymns but certainly not all of them are sound doctrine. And finally I want to express how amazed I am at the acceptance of the contemporary music in the mainline denominations such as Baptists, or even Methodists etc. Why I am so amazed is that 20 years ago there is no way a local Baptist church in my community would have ever sang songs that had their origin and authorship in the Charismatic or Pentacostal Movement. 12 | Last Days for 2 thousand years? | 2 Tim 3:1 | Scribe | 100211
It is true that it has been the last days for 2000 years. Therefore the time has to be at the very doors. The reason is that if it ends soon, then it still qualifies as 2000 years since on a time line of the history of the earth and mankind, you would see that from Christ to the present we are on at least the last third of history. If we move too much further into the future, say 1000 years or more, you would see on the time line that Acts 2 delclaration by Peter that we were in the last days would not be true, that instead of the last days, they were in the middle days, or if much further into the future and Acts 2 might fall on the time line before the middle mark of history and would make not logical sense whatsoever. Some people are afraid to say what I am saying becuase they are afraid that if the Lord does not come soon they will be saying the Word is not true, so they make satements like "even if we have to wait another 5000 years, what is that to God, after all with the Lord a thousand years is as a day" but that is saying that scripture is not true in my opinion. I believe Scripture is True and Verbally inspired. If Paul makes a point of the inspiration of the tense of the word Seed when referring to the OT passage of Abraham's Seed being singular and not Seeds plural becuase it was prophetic of Christ, then it is also true that the phrase Last Days meant the Last part of human history and not the middle or the first third etc. It is either Last Days or it is not true. But it is True and we are in the Last Days and we know it must end soon because the Word is true and is no Lie. Get Ready. The signs all point to His Soon Return. Many Bible Scholars stated in the 18 century that Babylon would be rebuilt and they could not see any other application but literal. We are living in a day when the evening news uses the phrase "Rebuilding of Baghdad" on almost a daily basis. Yes, the day is upon us and we must live like it. Be Sober, Be Vigilant, Seek to Do His Will.
13 | Are these verses contradictory? | 1 Chr 28:9 | Scribe | 100210
1 Chronicles 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Here the proclamation is made that if a man were to forsake the Lord he himself will be forsaken. This is the truth, and we understand the idea to be that of a full forsaking. Such as a man who stops serving God and dies that way. The other passage is about what "seems" to be a forsaking because it appears "in this life" due to hardships that God is no where to be seen, but we are to trust and wait and endure suffering if need be becuase surely he will appear and to our salvation. Lamentations 3:24-31 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. For the Lord will not cast off for ever: These two phrases are are different types of forsaking based on context. This is not becuase KJV is wrong, it is a natural way of speaking both in Hebrew and in English. We often use the same phrases to mean different types of things based on context. If we forsake the Lord and choose to live in sinful indulgence with no heart of repentance and an indifference to the coming day of the Lord, then we will be forsaken regardless of what lies you have heard to the contrary the scriptures are very plain on this. If we are going through hardship as we ARE SERVING the Lord, and if it SEEMS like He has forsaken us, it is not really true and it is only temporary, we will see his deliverance, He will not forsake us forever. But also if we have done some evil deed and are suffering for it, such as imprisoned for crime, and yet we are repentant and and desire to know God and serve Him fully; we may not be freed from prison but have to live in that horrible pit all the rest of our lives nevertheless, He will not forsake forever, we may be reaping what we have sown now, and we may deserve it, and it is just that God has allowed us to be imprisoned, nevertheless if a man repents and beleives, he will see salvation and not have to suffer forever. |

14 | Does God try to speak and not get heard? | Heb 1:2 | Scribe | 94602
Greetings. Good thoughts. I agree that God speaking and people not hearing has more to do with an obstinate heart than any disability of the human mind. Here is an example. I was praying for the Lord to help me find a good deal on a car. I did not want to go in debt and I did not want to get a lemon. I trusted the Lord to help me find the right one in a sea of choices. I was walking in my neighborhood and spied a nice Cadillac for sale. The price was low and I took the number down. As I walked along I imagined the enjoyment of driving such a vehicle and the luxury and comfort of the ride. I also confess that I imagined the image of myself being seen by others in this car. Now I had passed over into the sin of pride of life in this thought and it was at this time that I looked up and saw a van with a much lower price 1700 to be exact. Well the van was very nice inside and out, but I hardly even noticed and did not take down the number. See my mind was taken up with the thought of the pride of being seen in the cadilac. Later as I walked back by the van I went ahead and took down the number because the price seemed too low to believe and I felt I should at least check it out, maybe the Lord was trying to bless me with a really good deal and I was being to prideful or doubtful to believe it. Well after all was checked out, the cadilac was had been in a wreck, was parked in my neighborhood by a used car dealer to fool people into thinking it was offered by a neighbor, and the van was the legitimate vehicle of the neighbor it was parked at. The van drives like a new car and I am amazed daily at how much car I got for 1700. The point being that God was trying to answer my prayer and bless me with a great deal but pride almost made me miss the whole thing. Can we miss out on what God has for us, of course, I can tell many stories of instances when I was less humble and did not recognize my error and presumption until later (though I always had a warning in my spirit but ignored it.) Thus, God spoke to me by His Spirit but I wanted my own way and rebelled. Did I not hear God? No I heard him but hardened my own heart. Does God speak to us about such things? Of course He does. God speaks to us through the Bible, and yet He also communes with us in the Holy Spirit. If anyman does not know the communion of the Holy Spirit, I doubt that man is saved. I agree that the written Word is our final authority but never let anyone tell you that the Holy Spirit will not speak to you without a chapter an verse. The Holy Spirit will speak to you truths that you do not even know are in the scripture. Later you will read a scripture and say, "WOW! The Holy Spirit was speaking this truth to me and I did not even know this verse was in here!" If you do not know that experience I feel great sorrow for you. It is the frequency of such communion and experiences of these revelations of truth, that help me gauge whether I am properly pressing forward in God or stagnating or drawing back. If I am not experiencing communion with God outside of just reading scripture, then I would of all men be most miserable. The word of God is ALIVE and POWERFUL and without this dynamic of the Holy Spirit speaking to me I would not even be able to rightly divide the Word of God on paper. May God bless you as you Commune with Him and study His written Word. |

15 | is there god's law of succession? | Rom 9:16 | Scribe | 88188
You may already understand this, but if you do not I will take the time to explain that this Forum is for the purpose of posting Questions and receiving answers supported by scripture on what the Bible says. Therefore there would be several follow up questions I would ask before I would understand your question. Do you mean what was the Old Testament Jewish Law given by God to Israel concerning the succession of the Levitical Priesthood? Or how did God choose Judges in the OT before there were Kings. Or what was the law of birthright as it relates to the Hebrews. Or what is God's Plan for appointing Pastors in local New Testament Churches? If you want to know how a leader is appointed today in a New Testament Church, the bible declares that God Calls men to the ministry of the Word of God. You can look at almost every first verse or first few passages of Pauls Letters and see him declare this fact. There are many scriptures on how men are called. I will some scriptures after this explanation. How God Chooses a Pastor of a church after one pastor goes on to be with the Lord, or is called to do another work, is first and formost a call of God on anothe man's life who through prayer knows that is God's Will for them, then they will also have gifts of the Holy Spirit that demonstrate they are called, in some congregations they vote for the next pastor, but they are taught to vote only on those that qualify. There is no such thing in the Christian church of a man lording it over a flock and then when he passes giving the rulership to his son. There is no such thing as the son of the pastor Inheriting the pastorship by "birth right". If you are hearing of such a teaching in the church today I would call that a cult and run for my life. If that is the case that church is built by man and not by God. A true church will continue growing into the image of Christ whether the pastor that started it moves on or not, passing the leadership to the biological son might occur if the son is called by God and gifted by God to pastor, and always a holy life is required. The fact that a son of a pastor takes over after the senior pastor is gone, is more a testimony of the son being raised up in an environment to heed the call to ministry when it came. There is no such thing in the christian church of inheriting a call of God. You are called by God not as a result of who your father was but simply because God calls and gifts you for that purpose. Some sons of pastors are not called and some pastors try to fit their sons in that mold, it makes life miserable for the son and an embarrasment to the pastor. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: |

16 | How do you test prophecy ? | 1 Cor 14:31 | Scribe | 86887
1 Corinthians 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 1 Corinthians 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. The type of prophesying you are speaking of would be the type we read of in I Corinthians 14, which I am sure you know is not limited to the presbytery, however they indeed should be an example of it's proper usage. We judge all things according the Word of God,and it would be not different when judging prophecy. Some will mention the OT test of a false prophet or a true prophet based on whether what they say will come to pass. This does not apply to the I corinthians 14 chapter or I should say "new testament" prophet and prophesy which never was after the order of the OT prophets. The OT prophets ended with John the baptist, and the OT prophets that prophesied false things to lead people astray and pretend to be of the same calling as Elijah, or Isaiah, were to be tested, they that said that Israel would prosper, while Isaiah was saying judgement was coming, were exposed as false soon enough. The new testament prophesy is not and never was given to write scripture or to take the place of scripture, the apostle Paul would ask us to judge what is said in the light of scripture. If it is not doctrinally correct, forget about it. But look at the purpose Paul gives for new testament prophecy in the church... 1 Corinthians 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. It will be most identified with bringing comfort. If someone is prophesying over you promises that are already contained in God's Word, it is comforting and there is nothing to fear about receiving such a prophesy. What is the purpose? God will lead someone to give you a scriptual word of encouragement that will help you in something you are going through or about to go through. If it does not make sense to you, or you cannot say it is NOT scriptural, just shelf it and don't worry about it. If it was meant for you then you will be reminded by the Lord latter and it will be a comfort. If it is flaky like.. "you are going to get a visit from Michael the archangel.." then just leave. And don't go back. No presbyter should be so immature. That is not a seasoned pastor but a novice. |

17 | John 10:1-21 | John 10:22 | Scribe | 86883
Reading through Chapter 9 you see events that took place over time, I am of the opinion that the logic of the context suggest that Jn 10:22 begins the time of the dedication feast and He goes to solomons porch, before that the events of 10:21 occurred in a period of time of two months, it is not clear which day he does each thing. For instance...John 9:21-27 records a healing of a blind man, and then a meeting of sanhedrin to ask, him, then his parents, then him again, and it is hardly likely that these meetings all took place on the same day. Therefore we have records of events covering a two month period from John 7 the feast of tabernacles, until John 10:22 the dedication feast. |

18 | just an explanation of these verses | Col 1:13 | Scribe | 86822
This is a very big topic. To deal with it properly you have to review all the OT prophets concerning the kingdom of God and not just the New Testament verses. There is such a thing as the Kingdom of God that will reign on earth for one thousand years, this kingdom must be fulfilled. Yet there is a spiritual unseen reality of the kingdom of God and it is here now. It is great that this eternal spiritual kingdom is preached often but sometimes I hear it preached as if there is no such thing as a physical kingdom to come. But it will come. As sure as Christ rose from the dead, he will come again and destroy all the kingdoms of this world and be established as the only kingdom for 1000 years. Then after the new heavens and new earth are made, His kingdom will endure forever. We are citizens of that kingdom now, and even are called to be kings and priests on the earth now, in limited ways. What I mean by limited is that even though we are kings now, we are still destined to reign as kings on the earth in such a way that we have not yet entered into, because the time has not yet come. However we will rule over all nations with Him according to the prophesies and promises. Revelation 2:26-27 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. |

19 | Heavens pass away and earth destroyed ? | 2 Pet 3:10 | Scribe | 86651
I did not understand the question about the root meaning of the hebrew or greek, but this verse does indeed say the heavens and earth will be dissolved. The atomic levle is included, the very elements will be dissolved. We will have a new earth and a new heavens and nothing of the old will remain. It will not be an earth made over with a face lift and the old thing buried, to be revealed by an archaelogical dig, but the very elements of the periodic table you learned in high school physics will be dissolved. However this does not occur as the flood, while men are marrying and eating and drinking and living lives unconcerned.. First there will be horrible judgements poured out and The Lord Jesus as our Kinsman Redeemer will disposses the earth of its unlawful inhabitants through a series of judgements. Then the kingdom will be handed to the saints and then this event will occur at the very end when the judgement of the wicked has already come to a close.
20 | Was jabez saved? | 1 Chr 4:9 | Scribe | 86619
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. It is possible that he was a seeker of knowledge in the word of God and that is why he was considered more honorable than his brethren. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. The Jews have a tradition that he was a Dr. of the Law. It is possible that he was a Scribe and that the Jabez the town was named after him. 1 Chronicles 2:55 And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; I see in this prayer not a "make me rich" prayer but an earnest heart cry to be pleasing to God. And his FAITH granted him his petition, showing that whenever a man would dare break out of the normal and exercise a heart of Faith toward God, God was always delighting in moving to bless them with a Revelation of God Himself. He goes down in history as an example of how of the sons of Judah listed, God takes time out of the monotonous genealogy and says.. BUT THIS ONE WAS MORE HONORABLE.. as an inspiration to us.. Will you go down in history as just the son of your father in some ancient genealogy.. just a birth record, a death certificate, and your name on some roll somewhere archived in a dusty library.. or will you allow FAITH to cause you to break out of the norm and TAKE hold of the Feet of God (in Christ) and Say Oh Lord Bless ME.. make me to shine with Your Glory. John 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Matthew 26:13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. |
