221 | "My witnesses?" | Acts 1:8 | Mommapbs | 100603
What does it mean to be "My witnesses?" Is this the same as sharing the testimony of our personal conversion or is it something more?
222 | What happened to the Disciples? | Acts 1:23 | Mommapbs | 86823
What happened to Jesus' Disciples after the ascension? Acts 2:4 perhaps gives us a clue. Can you find another Scripture that supports your answer? How might this be significant to us today in our attitude toward others in "less visible" ministry?
223 | Discuss "a form of godliness?" | Acts 2:17 | Mommapbs | 30517
Greetings EdB! How would you define "holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power"? Could this describe a church that places little or no emphasis on corporate prayer? What about fellowships that embrace a cessationist view of the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Looking for some answers . . .Mommapbs
224 | Holy Spirit evidence of Salvation? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 51274
Greetings Forum participants! For many days we have masticated the issue of baptismal regeneration or the belief that water baptism is necessary for salvation. Now, if the Holy Spirit is only given AFTER (water) baptism, how could the Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit as they did in Acts 10 PRIOR to their water baptism? |

225 | Eternity - the real bottom line? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 51494
Greetings Rob! You asked," But if we cannot be united with Christ in his death without baptism (Rom 6) then why do you tell people they need not be baptized?" Perhaps you have misunderstood my position. I am not saying that believers need not to be baptized (water immersed)for indeed this is easy act of obedience we can do to show our love for Jesus. I believe the salvic "baptism" that we receive upon confession of faith is of and by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). This question has been "is water baptism necessary for SALVATION?" To which I answer,"NO." Salvation is a gift of God alone; if water baptism was required, that would be a "work" or a way to "earn" God's favor. (Eph 2:8-9) God loves everyone of us exactly the same. Nothing we DO can make Him love us more or less than He does at this very moment. I see water baptism as an act of obedience that FOLLOWS the new birth wrought at the moment of salvation. Eph 2:10 puts this in the proper order: "We are God's workmanship, created in CHrist Jesus, unto good WORKS which He prepared in advance for us to DO." (EMPHASIS, mine) God loved me, a sinner - I believed(this moment only God alone can know, for He sees my heart); God saved me by His Grace; I demonstrated my love for Him by my obedience to His Word. I confessed with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and entered the waters of baptism. Had I died prior to entering the baptistry (months after my conversion) WHERE would I spend ETERNITY? Isn't this the REAL bottom line? |

226 | Whose works are required for faith? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 78093
Greetings Disciplerami! You wrote, "without the works, there is NO FAITH." Whose works are required for faith? What are they? mommapbs |

227 | Rejection of the work of God? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 78237
Greetings, if I read this correctly, the finished work of Christ is is the work of God that we choose to accept or reject. One's faith is dead apart from accepting the "work" of God. According to what you have written can we say that the person who has not accepted the "work of God" is "dead" spiritually? mommapbs |

228 | Church growth measured by numbers in pew | Acts 2:41 | Mommapbs | 25004
Our congregation has been told that we need to increase the size of our facility to accomodate the projected growth of the church. Since May, we have had an increase of 20 percent in our worship services and almost 50 percent growth in the children's ministry. Is church growth measured by numbers in the pews? Many people are coming to the church, but few are coming forward. Any comments?
229 | Will you pray? | Acts 2:42 | Mommapbs | 169329
Greetings Brothers and Sisters a SBF. Can we be obedient to the entire part of this verse? This is a request for prayer for Ray VanderHart, a former member. Although there was a period of controversy over some of Ray's posts, I respectfully ask that this forum put aside its differences and please pray for Ray. He is in declining health and under hospice care. I ask that you pray not only for Ray's comfort and peace but also for his dear wife Christine. Thank you. Anyone wishing to send snail mail to Ray my contact me through my personal profile. In Christ's love, mommapbs |

230 | Have YOU been with Jesus? | Acts 4:13 | Mommapbs | 106376
Consider this: would any know that YOU had "been with Jesus?" What should be "observable" by others? Should we be "amazing" to them? I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks BTW, I'm not wild about the Amplified translation of "confidence." I think that because many lack "unfettered eloquence" this may be a source of discouragement for some. Do read the great previous posts on this verse from Makarios and Kalos! mommapbs |

233 | Hero worship? | Acts 5:13 | Mommapbs | 132520
Who are "the rest?" Are they the same as those who "held them in high esteem?" Is this the attitude that God desires - not joining but admiring?
234 | The "whole message?" | Acts 5:20 | Mommapbs | 132521
Why would the angel tell the imprisioned Apostles to speak the "whole message?" From the preceding verses, it appears (to me) that perhaps the people were focused on temporal things and not the spiritual healing that takes place in Christ. Are there any other indications from this passage in Acts 5 that the "whole message" was being missed?
235 | God's Order: Belief First! | Acts 10:47 | Mommapbs | 50714
There has been much dicussion recently on the baptism regeneration issue and questions about the salvation of the thief on the cross. I believe the following may be helpful. Using this text, how can water baptism ever be a prerequisite for regeneration (salvation)? Read the account of Peter's message to the Gentiles in Acts 10:34-48 The Gospel was preached, the people believed, the Holy Spirit was given and THEN they were baptized with water. Hopefully, this will clear up any misunderstanding about the order that God has established for salvation since Eden. BELIEF is the key - God does ALL the work necessary to make us acceptable, to be righteous in HIS sight, to be reconciled to Him. After our BELIEF, we have the blessed opportunity of demonstrating our love for the Savior by what we DO. (Eph 2:10) Now let us honor His love for us and be likeminded as believers to be reconciled to one another! JESUS MUST BE FIRST ALWAYS! |

236 | Did some believe and not turn? | Acts 11:21 | Mommapbs | 134753
The Amplified stresses the RESULT of the activity of God - which should encourage us as we "share" the Gospel with others - we are not responsibile for another's belief or lack thereof! But just reading the NASB I'm wondering, did some believe and not turn to the Lord? - the grammatical structure of this verse is perplexing. From my limited perspective, it appears that the emphasis is not only on the work of God, but the order of that work - prompting belief first . . . Any insight here would be appreciated.
