1 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | bill0624 | 213993
Here is a good and fun challenge, Val. Find one place in the Bible, just one, where it says that a believer goes straight to heaven when he/she dies. This reference must say "to heaven." If this is the true teaching of scripture, then the Bible should have a number of references that say that "we go to heaven" when we die. Can you find any?

Dear Bill, let me spell this out for you. God lives in heaven. Can we agree on that? To be absent from the body is to be physically dead. Can we agree on that? We know the dead physical body goes to the grave. Can we agree on that? To be at home with the Lord is to be where the Lord is- in heaven. Can we agree on that? So what is Paul saying in the following verse? Paul is saying that his spirit lives on, goes on, to be with the Lord in heaven. Can we agree on that? 2 Cor 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Sincerely, Val |

Hi Val. You wrote: God lives in heaven. Can we agree on that? No. God is omnipresent. He is everywhere. He fills the universe. There is no place where he is not. You wrote: To be absent from the body is to be physically dead. Can we agree on that? Sure. You wrote: We know the dead physical body goes to the grave. Can we agree on that? Sure. You wrote: To be at home with the Lord is to be where the Lord is- in heaven. Can we agree on that? Not necessarily. The Lord is already with us. He indwells us. He is here. Can we agree on that? You wrote: So what is Paul saying in the following verse? Paul is saying that his spirit lives on, goes on, to be with the Lord in heaven. Can we agree on that? So Jesus was lying about being with us always and never leaving us? All I'm saying is that this issue is not as cut and dry as some people say it is, Val. I rather think Paul was speaking of consciousness, that when we die, we know nothing until we wake up in our resurrected bodies. Please see my next post. |

Dear Bill, I see that you have adopted the Oprah Winfrey philosophy, i.e., new age philosophy, i.e., Hinduism or some other ism. Maybe some of the other people on the forum can help you. Sincerely, Val
