1 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | live4jc316 | 213858 | ||
Question a friend posed to me that had been brought up at a Bible study, and I'm stumped... What is the significance of us having actual bodies in heaven? I know Paul discusses resurrection vs earthly bodies in some detail in 1 Cor 15, and have also looked through Revelation, but yet to find anything concrete as to why we have a body in heaven. At this point my best answer is that I don't believe we will have a "body" exactly in the same sense as we know the word to mean on earth, but that still doesn't address the significance of it... any thoughts or especially relevant scriptures are appreciated! |

Greetings, I would like to direct your attention to the verses in Luke 16:18-31 where the individual found himself in hell. Every one of the senses associated with the body with the exception of the sense of smell are mentioned. When those who put all of their hope for eternal life in the person of Jesus the Christ they are promised a body like that of Christ at the resurrection. It will be a body that will be able to function just as our present bodies yet without the draw back of wearing out seeing that it won’t have an old sin nature. We will be able to function on this Earth, which will also be resurrected, where in dwells perfect righteousness. 2 Peter 3:13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. The souls that are temporally residing in heaven are quite restricted until they receive their eternal bodies. Rev. 6:9-11 And when He broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, wilt Thou refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 11And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, should be completed also.
