1 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | petedavis6263 | 211032 | ||
Keliy, You said, "...but God's Word is unchanging and can be discerned..." This is what troubles me, my pastor tells me the same thing, but when I asked him about discerning God's word regarding tithe money to buy strong drink (Deut 14:26) and killing your brother if he should want to lead you away from God (Deut 13:10), he contradicts God and violates Deut 12:32, "Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it." He tells me not to drink strong drink, much less use my tithe money to buy any and by no means should I even consider killing anyone who might want to talk me out of loving God. I do agree with you that 2 Tim 3:16-17 is a valuable passage, and this is why I am troubled, how am I to follow God's words without changing some of them like my pastor teaches? Pete |

Dear Pete, my friend you're really missing the whole point of the Bible as God's Word of truth to man. It is the story of Mans fall from grace into sin and God ultimately giving Himself as a Sacrifice for mans redemption. This form by the way is not a platform for pedantic nuisance. Please take bother CDBJ's advice and go to the New Testament and read it first, so you can get acquainted with Jesus Christ, then you can go to the Old Testament to get to know him better. :-) Maybe then, you can stop pestering your Pastor. By the way Welcome to the forum. God bless John |

Dear John, Thank you for your advice. I will stop my reading of the bible in Deuteronomy and go to the New Testament. By the way, what does pedantic mean in bible study? Also I don't understand how it is that I should learn if I don't read and ask questions. I'm shocked that you feel I am pestering my pastor. How do you suggest that I should learn? God Bless, Pete |

Hi Pete, pedantic means ostentatious in the way we learn , or being too concerned with small formal details or even ism's in teaching. Sorry Pete, I didn't mean to be harsh with you it was a tongue in cheek comment, and we seem to get a lot of kooks around here after and around the full moon too. :-) So I was perhaps a little presumptuous, again I'm sorry if I shocked or offended you my friend. :-) God bless John p.s. May the Lord bless you in your studies! |
