1 | Women speak in church? | 1 Cor 14:34 | souljourners | 178459
Paul wrote the book of Corinthians as he established churches and order the way it was aligned at that time. he said he does not allow, nowhere does it say that God commanded this. Truly I know that the husband has authority over the wife, but if the head of the church (local) which is the Pastor reccommends that a woman speak then I do believe that it is Gods will. God has even used a donkey so why not a woman. I speak in the church, but I have respect for the men over me and I do not make my address in the pulpit, but at the podium and God blesses me. But if there comes a time for me to be in the pulpit I know God will lead in that direction. Women's rights have nothing to do with the will of God. Look again at Deborah, she was in authority of men and women and she was chosen by God. So was Queen Esther. She had favor with God. Through her authority a whole nation of Jews was saved. it wasn't a man who God used but a woman. This happened over 2 thousand years ago not in the 21st century. The difference in the scriptures is who wrote it and who was that person speaking to and why.God bless

Dear souljouners, I think we're mis-communicating here. I'm attempting to keep our discussion within the bounds of scripture! At issue is not what you or I think, but what the inspired, authoritative Word of God says! How then, would you interpret 1 Tim. 2:12-13?: "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve." You seem to imply that this was merely a "suggestion" of Paul and in no way instructive!? Is what Paul says- through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit- not authoritative? Was he simply offering his opinion? What Paul is writing in 1 Tim. 2 has a direct bearing upon his continuation in Chap. 3 dealing with qualifications of Bishops and Elders. It is also referred to as context! Here are some comments from the late Dr. Kenneth Wuest- a noted NT Greek Scholar: "(2:11, 12) Paul is still dealing with the conduct of women in the assemblies. This admonition to the effect that women are to learn in silence with all subjection, is made clear as to its meaing by I Corinthians 14:34, 35, where the women were disturbing the church service by asking their husbands questions, presumably about that which was being preached. The silence here and in our I Timothy passage has to do with maintaining quiet in the assembly, and does not forbid a woman to take an active part in the work of the church in her own sphere and under the limitations imposed upon her in the contextual passage (I Tim. 2:12). The correct understanding of Paul’s words, “I suffer not a woman to teach,” are dependent upon the tense of the Greek infinitive and the grammatical rule pertaining to it." "Thus, didaxai (aorist), is to teach, while didaskein (present 2:12), is to be a teacher. Paul, therefore, says, “I do not permit a woman to be a teacher.” The context here has to do with church order, and the position of the man and woman in the church worship and work. The kind of teacher Paul has in mind is spoken of in Acts 13:1, I Corinthians 12:28, 29, and Ephesians 4:11, God-called, and God-equipped teachers, recognized by the Church as those having authority in the Church in matters of doctrine and interpretation. This prohibition of a woman to be a teacher, does not include the teaching of classes of women, girls, or children in a Sunday School, for instance, but does prohibit the woman from being a pastor, or a doctrine teacher in a school. It would not be seemly, either, for a woman to teach a mixed class of adults. The expression, “usurp authority,” Vincent says, is not a correct translation of the Greek word. It is rather, “to exercise dominion over.” In the sphere of doctrinal disputes or questions of interpretation, where authoritative pronouncements are to be made, the woman is to keep silence." [Kenneth S. Wuest, Wuest's Word Studies from the Greek New Testament] A.T. Robertson, also another well-known 20th Century Greek Scholar stated: "I permit not [ouk epitrepo]. Old word [epitrepo], to permit, to allow (I Cor. 16:7). Paul speaks authoritatively." [A.T. Robertson, Word Pictures in the New Testament] I don't pretend to think that this will settle the matter, but trust that it will add to the discussion and be edifying as we seek better understanding. We are sticking with scripture, but you are on one scripture. Does not your mind expand to have the mind of Christ. If Jesus gave the Samaritan woman at the well permission to speak His word to all she knew in John Chapter 4, what makes you think that that one scripture you seem to be stuck on is not meant for the church in Corinth and the situations they were having in the time Paul wrote the words in that scripture? In those days it was unlawful for women to even be in public during the day, but through divine intervention God placed this woman there because it was something that she needed to hear. So why is it so hard for you to understand that God is calling woman to speaking under his direction and annoitance that woman and men alike need to hear a different prospective of God's word. I truly have no doubt that the word is the inspiration of God, but you also have to realize that God gives us a mind and wisdom to think for ourselves also. It says not to quench the Spirit of God. So if woman aren't allowed to speak in the church that is contradictive to the word of God. Hallelujah is the highest praise and I love to speak praises to His name in church and out of church. So have I sinned for saying Hallelujah in church? If the problems in Corinth needed order at that time then it was appropiate for Paul to set order in the church. By Pastor's being led by God to use woman is not out of order and a sin. It's called a vision whom God gives to all Leaders. I don't come from a large church and I wear several hats within my church to God be the Glory. The gifts that I have are from God and to be used for His glory. Faith without works is dead. We all are to bear fruit. What about those scriptures? But we all know that God has called many womEn to preach His word all over the world. Let me ask you this. Do you believe God has called Joyce Meyer to preach under His annointance or is she in sin for doing so? Do you believe she is hearing from God? Do you believe she will be judged by God for preaching all over the world in which God has made provison for her and her husband Dave to do so? Do you believe she speakS the truth?
