1 | Jesus couldn't of gone up to heaven. | Luke 23:43 | EdB | 64327
Joe What trait declared Abraham righteous? Was it not faith. Romans 4:9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." What was his faith in? God providing a redeemer. What did David look to? God providing a redeemer. Name a righteous person they were looking for redemption the Messiah. "Joe you asked what the message of Roman 1and 2 was. It is saying people are without excuse for not having faith that God would provide a payment for their sin." That is not the reason given by Romans 1:18-32. But is the reason given in Romans 1:17 ! I have never said nor do I intend to say there is any form of redemption other than Jesus Christ. I did suggest that God in his mercy, grace, love, and justice MAY make known Jesus Christ to others in ways we have no knowledge of. While that seems highly unlikely particularly in the light of scripture Roman 10:14. I do not believe that is completely ruled out. I have heard of testimonies of people seeking and worshipping a redeemer sent by God without knowing his name. That is all I was saying. Now if you know for a fact that does not happens then I stand in awe of you. And there is nothing else to discuss. I believe redemption has been provided for ALL and those that reject Jesus are the ones that are lost. Sin is not the problem the rejection of Christ is now the problem. Romans 5:18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. Since your asking me questions let me ask you. Did Abraham being considered righteous by God need a redeemer or not? Did Christ pay the price for sin or not? Did he or did he not free us from the penalty of sin? If this be true then is it sin or our lack of belief in Christ Jesus as our savior that causes us to be condemned? Joe I might add I do not enjoy or appreciate what I read to be accusations. While I know this a very popular form of debate I do not feel it is needed on this forum. I have posted on this forum for over year and I think my postings proven I have a love and appreciation for the scripture, my savior and God the Father. While I openly admit to holding an Arminian point of view it is still considered orthodox I believe. I do not enjoy you accusing me of inventing theology especially when I haven’t. If you go back to my first post on this subject you will see I openly admitted that God’s dealing with those that haven’t heard the scripture is known to me. That I did know Jesus said he was the only way to the Father and beyond that I was in the dark. Now if you want to read things into what others said fine but I would thank you not to do it to me. "Since your asking me questions let me ask you. Did Abraham being considered righteous by God need a redeemer or not?" Yes, and it was promised to him. God making the promise preceded Abraham's belief. "Did Christ pay the price for sin or not? Did he or did he not free us from the penalty of sin?" I don't even think this question needs to be asked of me, do you? :) "If this be true then is it sin or our lack of belief in Christ Jesus as our savior that causes us to be condemned?" Sin. By the way, rejection of Jesus would be a sin as well. However, long before the Christ-hater rejects Jesus, she has sinned and deserves hell. "Joe I might add I do not enjoy or appreciate what I read to be accusations." I am not wanting you to read them as such. What I am hoping you will see are the serious theological implications of giving hope to those who have never heard the gospel. As I stated before, why in the world should I evangelize if it could be seen as giving someone an opportunity to reject Jesus Christ and be condemned? I have no doubt of your righteous standing with God, Ed. I have no doubt of your desire to honor Him. However, that does not make us incapable of error. And like I have said several times, there is not one sentence of Scripture that gives anyone hope outside of the proclamation of the gospel, and many, many passages which attest to them being without excuse and in need of hearing the message in order to be saved. We are not "in the dark" on such matters, as you keep saying; on the contrary, much biblical light is shed on the issue. If you are even possibly correct, then most of the passages I have been citing in our exchange are meaningless. I am open to correction, Ed; but you are going to have to do a lot more than imply that I am claiming omniscience in order to get me to see my error. Enjoy the Lord's Day. --Joe! |

3 | Jesus couldn't of gone up to heaven. | Luke 23:43 | EdB | 64377
Joe This is going to places I do not care to go and I hesitate to bring this up, but read Luke 12:47-48. I'm sure you will give me a pat answer and that is alright but I can safely say this is a debated topic among theologians. I will also add there not to many that are dogmatic in their opinion. Before you answer remember we are told all whose name is not written in The Lamb’s Book or Life will be cast into the lake of fire. EdB |

Why do you conclude that Luke 12:48 is referring to a non-Christian? --Joe! |

Joe I did not conclude anything. I simply used it as an example of a on going debate over this subject that currently respected theologians were engaged in, that you imply is an cut and dried issue. The subject is not as open and shut as you state it. That is all I'm trying to say. There are mysteries of God that have not yet been revealed to us. I merely stated while salvation apart from the preaching of Jesus seems unlikely to me, the Bible does not offer conclusive doctrine that it can not happen. Therefore neither you nor I should attempt to say decisively that it in fact does not happen. I’m still a believer that God can accomplish what He desires, in ways He desires. I will not build a box to put God in. EdB |
