Retxar I believe that teaching on John 20:17 is birthed in error. Jesus was saying I don't have time to waste, I have a lot to do before I must ascend to the Father, talking 40 days in future. Remember God is Spirit, immediately after his death the word says He gave up His Spirit. His Spirit had to go somewhere and I would think to be with the Father no just hanging out in Hades for 3 days. Also the Jehovah Witnesses pick up on this teaching saying this proves Jesus did not rise physically but only spiritually thus he didn't want to be touched. Again a completely false teaching. I think some of that has been blended into orthodox Christian teaching. You would be surprised how much junk has been brought into Christianity. People that are in cults or false religions usually bring at least a piece of the false teaching with them. This gets innocently passed on and soon the truth gets lost in all the conjecture. Your exactly right Jesus did not preach to those on the hot dry side of Hades. EdB |

Thanks Ed, One claification tho. I asked "Also, did Jesus not also preach to the wicked over on the "hot side" of Hades (1Pe 3:19)?" I quess that may have been worded funny, but what I meant to say was that 1Pe 3:19 seems to say to me that Jesus did indeed preach to those in the hot dry side of Hades. Maybe you thought I meant something different because your response was "Your exactly right Jesus did not preach to those on the hot dry side of Hades." Was that what you meant to say (which is actually disagreeing with what I meant to say), or did you indeed agree with what I said? retxar |

Retxar 1 Pet 3:19 does not say he preached to those in the hot dry side. It simply says he preached to those in prison. The righteous were in prison, they were a prisoners of sin which Jesus had to set free. Remember they weren't forgiven they were just depending on God for a deliverer. Thus the scripture He lead captivity captive. After death there is no second chance. Before Christ you either died in rebellion to God or looking to God for you redeemer. After Christ you either die condemned or saved. Why would Jesus have preached to the hot dry side. they could not be saved. At the Great white Throne of Judgement they will know their mistake. So the only reason would be is to make them more miserable and I don't see a loving God doing that. Your right I did misread you comment. I wish you had written it the way I read it. EdB |

Seeing as we are getting into a lotof conjecture here, may I add something? Isn't it possible He went to the "Hot, dry side" to show them, and all of those who try to turn hearts against God, that He conquered? Jesus won! Satan and his minions have no more power! I think instead of rubbing it in to those there, His presence would show them how wrong they were and how deserving they are of being where they are. At the great White Throne Judgement, everyone will see the Lord, also. I think those who have turned away from the Lord in this life will not really want to be seeing Him then, or ever, so it is His mercy and their choice, to be removed from His presence. As I said, I am just imagining, too, and wandering where wise men fear to tread - no comments about that last statement, PLEASE! Debbie |

Debbie Anything is possible. Jesus did everything with a purpose. Since there was not chance for those on the hot dry side to become righteous I don't see a purpose for speaking them. That said the Bible is silent on the that subject so we don not know the right answer. As you said we can offer opinion and conjecture but no definitive answer. EdB |
