1 | Christ comes in kingdom power at the End | Mark 9:1 | Taleb | 99137 | ||
Mel, are you a politician? :) I notice that you, like so many of my political friends, AVOIDED answering my question in regards to WHERE does it say anything about rebuilding any Temple. Rather, you took me around the barn. I have read the same material you are quoting. I have also read what historians have written. I prefer to believe what has been truthfully been declared about Matthew’s, Mark’s and Luke’s writings down through HIS-story - over what has been said they MUST have meant, because of a misinterpretation of Daniel’s prophecy. Apparently, you have never read an eyewitness account to the destruction of the last Jewish Temple. Josephus BACKS UP WHAT JESUS SAID PERFECTLY. If you find Josephus “dry”, perhaps you should try one, or all, of these commentaries - Matthew Henry (1721), Adam Clarke (1837) ( I love his math on the 1260 days, very inspiring), Albert Barnes, Henry Hammond (1659), or the Geneva Study Bible (1560). Thomas Newton’s “Dissertations on the Prophecies” (1754) should convince you to search out the real facts. Or, F.W. Farrar’s “The Early Days of Christianity” (1886), From a Jew’s point of view about Matthew 24 and Daniel in AD 70 being fulfilled, get a copy of Solomon Grayzel’s “History of the Jews”. Perhaps your local library has one or more or all of what I have given reference to. Until you have “at the very least” checked out one of the above, you really have nothing to say about the subject of what “takes place in the future” concerning "those 1260 days". Actually, my list of references are more numerous than you care to read about – but if after you have checked out what all of the above state and are still unconvinced, let me know. :) At one time, I TOO BELIEVED what you are saying, but soon discovered the huge holes in that erroneous concept. Then I dug into what others had to say and, lo and behold, those authors from days of old filled in those holes with truth. Consider this: If someone was handed a Bible without footnotes, and told to read it and explain it, and they KNEW history – they could not possibly conclude what you have tried to persuade as fact. It can ONLY be learned from another - NEVER ONLY BY SCRIPTURE! Be honest – with yourself, if not with me. HOW did YOU personally learn what you are stating? Was it merely from reading “plain Scripture”, or was it from a preacher, book, or “footnotes in your Bible”? The Scriptures themself declare “ALL SCRIPTURE is for divinely inspired, and useful in teaching, in reproof, in correcting faults, and in training in uprightness, so that the man of God will be adequate, and equipped for any good work.” Someone once told me he only uses Scripture to back up his arguments. He lied big time. Because what he USED to back up his arguments were “footnotes from a Darby Study Bible”. For sure THAT ISN”T SCRIPTURE. Blessings, Taleb |

Taleb, what do you mean when you say their is huge holes in that erroneous concept. What concept are you talking about? The 3 and a half years, or what? What's wrong with Darby's study Bible? I don't have one, but was just wondering. TommyS |

TommyS, sorry it took so long to get back you. Our "phones" have been acting up again. The huge holes in the erroneous concept never showed up until a few hundred years ago. Darby and Scofield’s words are taking as “inspired” (well, in one way that is correct – they were inspired – by a woman in the early 1800s). Since then, and only since then, has the fulfillment of Matthew, Mark and Luke’s words, on the end of the Old and the coming of the New Testament, changed from PAST to FUTURE. Allow me to quote a sample from of one from a multitude of “pre-Darby, Scofield” resources: Adam Clarke Commentary on the Old Testament begins Daniel 9 with this paragraph. “Daniel, understanding from the prophecies of Jeremiah that the seventy years’ captivity was now terminating, pours out his soul in fervent prayer to God, and earnestly supplicates pardon and restoration for his captive people, vv. 1-12. When thus supplicating God in behalf of Israel, the angel Gabriel is sent to inform him of the seventy prophetic weeks, or four hundred and ninety natural years, which should elapse from the date of the edict to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple to the death of the Messiah, vv. 20-27; a prophecy most exactly fulfilled by the event, according to the computation of the best chronologers. Dean Prideaux states the commencement of these seventy prophetic weeks to have been in the month Nisan, in the year of the Julian period 4256, which corresponds with A.M. 3546, B.C. 458, according to the Usherian account. How awfully are the Jews blinded, who, in contradiction to so clear a prophecy, still expect the Messiah who was cut off, and, after suffering, is entered into his glory!” TommyS, IF possible, get your hands on this commentary and check out how the math, supported by Scripture, takes you from Daniel’s words right to their finality EXACTLY as Jesus said it would happen. It is exciting to follow through - especially with the understanding of HOW the final conclusion is explained. If you don’t have one, or can’t afford one, check out some websites under “Bible Study Aids”. Locate AND commentary (as long as it predates the mid-1800) look up Matthew 24:14 and THEY WIILL ALL SAY EXACLT THE SAME TRUTH. I have yet to locate any works that don’t agree – INCLUDING MANY JEWISH ones. TommyS – don’t make the mistake so many others make. Jesus OFTEN spoke allegorically, as much of the prophets of old had done. The “Jews” understood that “kind of speech” then, and they still use that kind of speech today – As do many of us. :) Happy “Studying”, Taleb |

Hello, Taleb. Thank you for responding to my off the cuff questions. My church library has Clarks commentary. Thank you for taking the time to help me understand where you are coming from. If you don’t mind – what do you mean by Jesus OFTEN spoke allegorically? TommyS |
