1 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | gomar | 8
Do you think knowledge and wisdom are essentially the same, or is there a difference? (compare Prov 1:7 and 9:10)
2 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Jaknik | 48894
An old saying: "He who says, or thinks, he knows--does not know. But he who knows that he does not know--knows."
3 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Reformer Joe | 48896
Here are a few more old sayings: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever." --Psalm 111:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction." --Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." --Proverbs 9:10 "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!" --Romans 11;33 "For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." --2 Corinthians 4:6 "For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" --Colossians 1:9-10 --Joe! |

4 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Hank | 48924
Joe, I rather like your group of old sayings, but I perceive they are from the Bible, and from what I've been reading on this forum of late, the Bible can't be trusted, according to dschaertel. And it has some problems with harmony among the gospel accounts, according to Jaknik. So what business do these quotations of yours from the Bible have on a StudyBibleForum anyhow, Joe? Somehow I have come to think that somewhere along the way we put the Bible aside and went on to things we CAN trust (as soon as we find out what they are), with each man feeling perfectly free to do what is right in his own eyes. [The foregoing is pure irony, and I know you recognize it as such, Joe, but others may not; hence, this explanatory note will serve to clear up any misgiving that I am being in the least disrespectful of that blessed old book the Bible, the word of God]. --Hank
5 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Jaknik | 48942
Another "old" saying, Hank, this from Shakespeare: "Methinks you protest too much..." Also, the concept of "bible-bashing" is "relative" just like most things. Your assumption that you have garnered the whole truth and nothing but the truth, in your corner of the world, may be true. Then again it may be "relative". Instead of "singling" out people that you have "judged", it might be more conducive to a profitable and positive atmosphere to "discuss". BTW, I'm from (Arkansas), Black Rock, around the Walnut Ridge/Hoxie area... :) and still a Christian, the last time I checked...
6 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | Reformer Joe | 48976
The word "Christian," like most terms, has a pretty precise definition. When you refer to yourself as one, and yet declare the Bible not to be authoritative, we need to get our terms straight. What do you consider being a "Christian" entails? --Joe! |
