1 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | skccab | 212642 | ||
Shalom Bandaid, I have answered to the best of my ability on the fasting and prayer question and I gave you an answer on the divorce question. I just had one more insight on the divorce issue - If you are familiar with the many do's and don't's as portrayed in the Torah, they are mostly in the male gender - but human common sense let's us know that they are speaking to the female gender as well!! Just a few examples - Exodus 23:3 "You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute." Does that mean people can show partiality to a poor woman just because the term woman is not used? Of course not!! One we are all familiar with, Exodus 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his femaile servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's." As we read this we realize it is not just to the men, it's for the women, too. Or is it OK for a woman to covet her neighbor's husband or anything else that belongs to her neighbor? I don't think so. Or Exodus 21:16 says "He who kidnaps a man...shall surely be put to death." Is God saying that it is OK for a man to kidnap a woman? or for a woman to kidnap a man? Of course not! It goes on and on, 'if a man...' but God must surely have meant 'if a human being or a person' in the majority of His civil laws. Just because we don't have the specific words "woman" or "female" doesn't mean the His commandments, whether for the person's benefit or not, doesn't apply to the female gender. Women are very special to God, too!! This is just a general answer to your question about divorce - only you know what really applies. Just keep in mind that God gave us brains to think for ourselves, His word to let us know what He smiles at and frowns at, His Son to cleanse us of our honest mistakes (even our not-so-honest mistakes) and His Spirit to help us know how to unjangle the many messes we seem to create for ourselves (especially before we knew Him). His Spirit will lead you in the way you are to go. Sorry I couldn't help more. :o) Cheri |

Great answers Cheri! I also noticed as I was quoting Matt 5:28 it generalizes men lusting after women. I had to laugh just a little realizing that did not mean we women can lust or view porn of men and it's not mentioned...in that scripture anyway. Yes to brains, it's just there are so many differing views and ideas on scripture that it really matters to take it all back to the original texts and understanding of that time and era. It is very exciting to focus on some of these questions since God asks us to meditate on His Word, that is really where all of lifes answers are, in my opinion. God is the Mighty Counselor. This is the meat I am hungry for. |

Bandaid, You may be on the right track but I'd steep carefully none the less, I think you are doing just that by the way. :-) I tend to agree with Cheri. But you know, if the Holy Spirit was giving you a green light you would not be so troubled by this. Perhaps, either there is hope for your husbands repentance or God is keeping you in this to learn something? I believe you are correct, IMHO. The greek word used here for unchastity or fornication or immorality, is 'porneia', and is the word we get the word pornography. V 32 "But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. KJV v 32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality F22 causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. NKJV 32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. NASB 32 But I tell you, Whoever dismisses and repudiates and divorces his wife, except on the grounds of unfaithfulness (sexual immorality), causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery AMP NASB In my opinion, if the Lord had intended to say Adultery only and specifically is the only reason for divorce, he would have had His Word say so. Take it for what it is worth to you. I hope this helps. John |

Is there any hope for a man who CHOOSES not to get help... through the power of prayer (and fasting?) Is there any hope for a man unable to get help due to indwelling spirits...through the power of prayer and fasting? The ideas I linger with: is the point a man gets to with pornography the opening of doors allowing evil spirits to take over his life as I would believe the bible would clarify, and I tend to agree more with. and how much plays the role of physical stimulation and mental habits of a man addicted to porn affecting the dopamines that require him as an addict to get more, when he comes down in his depressed state. I trust biblical knowledge over psychology. I beleive God can free us from anything He chooses. Does He choose to free this man is a question. |
