1 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | bill0624 | 214021
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "ALL AUTHORITY has been given to ME in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe ALL that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." - Matt 28:18-20 These are my, in Christian lingo, "key verses", Tim. My postings ARE biblically based, based primarily upon Jesus' teachings as found in the gospels as found in the Bible. I don't deny the deity of Jesus Christ. In fact, I find that his deity and his claims to ALL AUTHORITY in heaven and on earth necessitate that I don't put other biblical people on the same level of authority as that of Christ himself. I don't follow Moses. Is this forum saying I should? How odd that on a "Christian" forum, I should have to defend Jesus' authority. Nevertheless, if YOU (or OTHERS here) feel that I am in violation of this forum's policies and that I should be banned here, notify management and should they desire that I leave, I will leave quietly. |

2 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | Morant61 | 214053
Greetings Bill! I would certainly agree with you my friend that the Great Commission is a key verse. :-) However, Eph. 2:8-10 is just as much God's Word as is Matt. 28:18-20. That is the point I was trying to make by pointing you to the terms of usage. The purpose of this forum is to study the Bible, not to slice and dice it into some parts that are Scripture and other parts that are not - all of it is God's Word. By the way, no one is saying that Jesus' words are authoritative, we are simply saying that the rest of Scripture is authoritative as well. God does not contradict Himself. Eph. 2:8-10 (and many others) makes it perfectly clear that we cannot earn salvation through works. The teachings of Jesus will be and are in harmony with the rest of Scripture. Tim, could you explain to me how these passages are "in harmony"? He said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.'" - Ex 22:27 "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately." - Num 31:17 Now when Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field in the wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them were fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword. - Joshua 8:24 Versus: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." - John 10:10 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," - Matt 5:44 "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you," - Luke 6:27 "But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." - Luke 6:35 How are all these verses "in harmony" with one another and teach us, according to God's Word, a unified teaching concerning what we should do with our enemies? |

4 | Actual bodies in heaven? | 1 John 3:2 | Morant61 | 214066
Greetings Bill! Since you only accept the words of Jesus, let me answer your question by quoting Him. John 5:24 - "24 ‘‘I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. 25 I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. 28 ‘‘Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned." Matthew 10:28 - "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." God in His grace offers life to all, but love does not mean a lack of justice or of judgment. We should love our enemies, but those who reject Christ will one day receive the righteous judgment they deserve for their rejection of Him. Those who were killed, by the command of God, in the O.T. were killed as an act of Divine justice. God did not grant the Israelites the right to decide for themselves who would live and who would die. He gave them very specific directions. This line of questioning is an example of why there is a problem with trying to pit one part of Scripture against another. There is no contradiction between one part of Scripture and another part, all of Scripture is God's Word. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Greetings Bill! You wrote: "Sure, these people were considered wicked by God. I mean, who isn't? But do you see God, in his "grace", sending any of the Israelites into these tribes to evangelize them? Do you see God, in his grace, sparing the women and children? Do you see God, in his grace, telling Israel to love her neighbors, to do good to them?" You also wrote: "This is one of the problems with Bible-thumping fundamentalists, they claim that their Bibles are the "very words of God" and they don't even know what is in there." There are at least two problems with your assertions. First of all, you have forgotten about Jonah and Nineveh. God in fact did send someone in to evangelize His enemies, and they repented and were spared from His judgment. Secondly, you are arguing from silence. We don't know every historical detail of the peoples you mentioned. Did God send prophets to warn them like He did we Nineveh? Scripture doesn't tell us. So, you are assuming that they were given no opportunity to repent. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
