Greetings - this has been debated many times - do a quick search for "eternal security" Kalos wrote an excellent post which supports my position on the matter as well: ONCE LOST, ALWAYS LOST. . . . "Once saved, always saved." This statement is not in the Bible. Nor is it a phrase used by Baptist preachers. The only people who use this phrase are the ones who reject the Bible doctrine of Eternal Security, the opposite of which would be Eternal Insecurity. . . .While "once saved, always saved" is hotly debated, one thing is for certain: Once lost, salvation is always lost. " . . . logically Heb. 6:4 implies that if salvation were to be lost, it would be impossible for that person to be born again, lose it, and then be born again again. This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved ealier." Whether he had lost his salvation or never had it to begin with, "either way, the result is identical." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) mommapbs |

Mommapbs, Greetings!! I would appreciate your assistance in a matter if you don't mind. Your's and anyone else who might have a point of view. I'm under the impression that the only time the bible contradicts itself, is when someone do not have the full understanding on two or more verses, and right now I think I might be that someone. ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED-I encountered this post and answered in the positive, using Romans 8:1 and 8:35-39. You answered in the negative using Heb. 6:4. I'm wondering if you would be interested in a discussion of these verses?? I could do this myself, but I've really come to appreciate your perspective on scripture, yours; Hanks; Radioman2; and a number of others. So whatta you say, help a brother out?? |

Halting short of faith in Christ. Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, "impossible "Hebrews 6:4-8 presents the case of Jewish professed believers who halt short of faith in Christ after advancing to the very threshold of salvation, even "going along with" the Holy Spirit in His work of enlightenment and conviction (John 16:8-10). It is not said that they had faith. This supposed person is like the spies at Kadesh-barnea (Deuteronomy 1:19-26) who saw the land and had the very fruit of it in their hands, and yet turned back. "partakers (Greek - iJlavskomai ," going along with)." Bibliography Information Scofield, C.I. "Scofield Reference Notes on Hebrews 6". PART 1 Good Morning Mommabps, It is now 9:am in the Nations Capital. You might want to get a cup of coffee because this one might take a minute. I've done alot of reading on Hebrews 6:4-5 and I came up with something clear and simple. It's taken from the 'Believer's Bible Commentary' by William MacDonald, he said, "We come now to the heart of the warning against apostasy. It applies to a class of people whom it is IMPOSSIBLE to restore again to repentance. Apparently these people had once repented, though no mention is made of their faith in Christ. Now it is clearly stated that a renewed repentance is impossible. Who are these people? The answer is given in verses 4 and 5. In examining the great privileges which they enjoyed, it should be noticed that all these things could be true of the unsaved. It is never clearly stated that they had been born again. Neither is any mention made of such essentials as saving faith, redemption by His blood, or eternal life. They had once been enlightened. They had heard the gospel of the grace of God. |
