Subject: Why don't we address God as Yahweh? |
Bible Note: Hi Tim, Exodus 34:14, KJ, "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous is a jealous God." New World Translation, "For you must not prostrate yourself to another god, because Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God;" I find it of interest that the NWT puts in an extra pronoun, saying, "he is a jealous God". 1) Exodus 34 goes on and warns them not to play the harlot and go after other gods, sacrifice to their gods, or make images of other gods. Notice, people, the lower case "god"; for there is only one God and that is the Lord God, Himself. 2) I believe that God is jealous of that name. 3) Who is the Lord that descended in the cloud and stood there with Moses as he called upon the name of the Lord; [Or, as he called out with the name of the Lord]? Ex 34:5 Who is the Lord that Moses wanted to go along in their midst, even though the people are so obstinate? I won't pretend to know for sure which Person is being spoken of, but I know that Christ, the Lord descended and that God is Spirit and He dwelt in our midst. 4) Here is Exodus 34:14 as I understand it right now: "---for you shall not worship any other god, for YHWH (the Lord, Or, Jehovah), being jealous for the name, is a jealous God---. Deut. 6:13, "You shall fear only the (Lord) your God; and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name. 14 You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God/:..." Numbers 25:10, "The the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 11 "Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned away My/ wrath from the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the sons of Israel in (My) jealousy." Hebrews 12:28, "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God/ is a consuming fire." I still say that the way we show our reverence and awe is by capitalizing His name and His pronouns. From the heart, Ray |
