Bible Question: Most English Bibles translate God's name (YHWH - Strong's 3068) as LORD. Some use Jehovah, and a few use Yahweh. Bible scholars say Jehovah is incorrect and the correct pronunciation is not known for sure. We know that there is no "J" or "J" sound in Hebrew. My question: Since "LORD" is not God's name, and Yahweh is the best guess, Why don't more Bibles and people address God as Yahweh? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Boris Cat! My way of answering this question is to look at what Jesus Himself did when He quoted passages from the Old Testament containing the Tetragrammaton. For instance, look at Luke 4:18-19. Here Jesus is quoting Is. 61:1-2, a passage where YHWH is used. Luke, writting under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit translates YHWH in v. 19 as 'kurios' or 'Lord'. So, if Jesus was comfortable saying 'Lord' instead of YHWH, I am as well. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
