Bible Question: Most English Bibles translate God's name (YHWH - Strong's 3068) as LORD. Some use Jehovah, and a few use Yahweh. Bible scholars say Jehovah is incorrect and the correct pronunciation is not known for sure. We know that there is no "J" or "J" sound in Hebrew. My question: Since "LORD" is not God's name, and Yahweh is the best guess, Why don't more Bibles and people address God as Yahweh? |
Bible Answer: Boris Cat YHWH is without vowels and therefore impossible for us to pronounce. The vowels were added taken from the Greek word Adonni. The language laws demand that Y be pronounced as J but many say Y. Remember Jews would never think of saying God's name and even when writing the word God will write G-d. there have been many discussions on God's name. I personally like Exodus 3:15 Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.' EdB |
