NASB | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God's seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again--who is reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him. |

Bible Note: Hi Tim, It's good to hear from you. You always challenge me toward growth and learning! Romans 7 seems to very clearly portray 2 natures residing together. If I remember correctly you understand Romans 7 to be speaking of the unregenerate person. Is that right? :-) But that aside, what do you think is meant in Colossians 3:5 "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:" What are our members that are on the earth that we are told to mortify - kill - and why do they need to die?
