Bible Note: Dear Cheri, I will try my effort to answer your question. There is an explanation which I found pretty convincing (at least to me) that the 24 elders represent : 12 Israel tribes in the OT and the 12 apostles in NT. In another sense, they represent the saints from both OT and NT. Concerning the 144,000, it is the multiples of 12 representing all God's people (i.e. believers in OT and NT). If we interpret that only 144,000 is the exact number for the saved, I am afraid that we are in deep trouble. I remember some users had listed a website conerning commentary of Rev. However, I cannot locate it for the moment. Maybe I leave the job for you :) Please do understand that the Rev is written with many symbolic terms in assocation with historical background of the OT and the current situation of the christian at the 1st century. Although the author did quote directly from OT, however the content is very familiar with what we have read in Danial, Isaiah, Ezek, Exodus. Sorry that I cannot give scriptural reference on what I have written. Hope this helps a bit on your understanding of the book of Rev. Shalom Azure |
