Bible Note: Greetings Hoppy! Thanks for waiting! Thanks for clarifying your understanding of the word 'partakers'. I see it as a much more significant word than just 'partaking' of a game by sitting in the stands. The word, according to BAGD, refers to 'sharing or participating in with the genitive of the person or thing.' In which case, they didn't just experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in a worship service, they participated or partook of the Holy Spirit Himself. To overly simplify things, the Holy Spirit only relates to unbelievers to convict them of sin. Only of believers could it be said that they are partakers of the Holy Spirit. So, I could never equate this word with merely partaking of a worship service, since the text explicitly says that they were partakers of the Holy Spirit Himself. 2) To whom is the author refering in v. 7? He is referring to Christians who have become unfruitful. (See John 15:2 and 6). He is warning of the danger of falling away and becoming unfruitful. Fortunately, he says in v. 9, that he is convinced of better things of his audience. 3) Common: I was referring back to your use of the phrase 'common rain'. I was wondering if by that phrase you meant that being a partaker of the Holy Spirit is common to all men, just as rain falls on on men? Have a great Lord's Day my friend!
