Subject: KJV vs "New Age Bible Versions"? |
Bible Note: DAIRYLEADER5 Education is something to treasured. Scripture tells us to study and show ourselves approved. I can not tell you how many preachers I have heard make a complete fools of themselves because they failed to realize the true meaning of the original Greek or Hebrew text. I have heard men and women preach telling the audience that 'this' word in the Greek or Hebrew implies thus and such. When anyone using a newer translation can easily see the word meant something completely different. I agree we should do everything we can to help babies in Christ get off the milk and into the meat. And one of the best ways to do that is to encourage them to seek teaching and training so they can be educated in God's truth. One of the first things I do with a new Christian is to try to find them a Bible translation they can understand and will use. I then teach them how to use Bible word dictionaries like Strong's, Vines, or one of the many others so they can get the true meaning of what is being said. A simple word like "believe" which is "pisteuo" in the Greek means far more than our word believe. Example I can believe Home Depot has a rope that will support me. If I go in and ask for a rope that will support my weight I can leave the store with a rope that I believe will support me. I can then take that rope mountain climbing and believe it will catch me if I fall. Lastly I can believe enough in that rope to let go and be supported by it. Only in this last example is true “pisteuo” belief. The word which we translate simply as believe really means to believe or trust to the point you become dependant upon it. In the first example I’m really just using experience and logic that Home Depot has a rope that will support me. Therefore I believe Home Depot sales rope strong enough to hold me but I have no real dependence upon it. In the second example I’m walking away with the salesman knowledge that the rope will support me. The salesman told me the rope was strong enough and he convinced me enough to buy it. But again no real dependence upon it. In the third example I’m exercising some faith but I’m still holding onto what I know to be solid ground. Here I’m probably displaying less Pisteuo belief than the other two since I’m so careful not to something that I would need to be caught by the rope. See the importance of understanding the original language we translate Pisteuo into believe of which we have at least for meanings for. Therefore the real significance of the word is lost. This can be seen in the church today we have many so called Christians that are living like hell itself yet if you ask them they will willing tell you they believe in Jesus Christ and they do. However they do not Pisteuo believe in Jesus Christ, they are counting on their good works, their retirement plans, their savings, their company provided health care to see them through. Oh they believe in Jesus just as they believe in the president of the United States is George Bush but they haven’t become dependent on belief of Jesus Christ for their salvation. Education is to be treasured and any that refuses to study can not declare themselves a good workman. EdB |
