Bible Question:
So does this verse end any predestination questions, and why or why not? |
Bible Answer: The question associating predestination with 1 Tim. 2:4 assumes that all the wishes and will of God will be performed. However, since God is sovereign, He may allow circumstances and events to occur which are not His good, permissible, nor perfect will to exist. He can do what He has said. Deuteronomy lays out the principal that God has set before us life and death, blessing and cursing, so that we may choose between them. Throughout scripture the events between God and man indicate a desire on God's part for blessing, and an unwillingness in man to cooperate with God's plan to bring that to pass. The verse in 1 Tim. 2:4 shows God's desire, and His willingness to have all men be saved. However, Jesus told us that more would take the road to destruction, in every situation, than would enter the road to life. We can take the view that God has good plans, and even a predestination that He desires each one to take, but also that in His greatness, He has allowed us to take the path that we choose. And, we thank God for Jesus, in that in Him He has also made a way of return, and restoration for the choices we have made that lead away from life. |
