Subject: My Final Answer! :-) |
Bible Note: Greetings All! I have been involved in an ongoing discussion about whether or not Christ died for all men. Some have contended that all of the references which refer to 'all' men really mean only 'some' men. This is my last post on the subject (for now :-) ). My contention is that there is not a single verse which says that Christ did not die for all men, or that He only died for some men. However, there are many which specifically extend God's grace to all. As my last post, I will simply list many of these verses and ask, "Do these really mean only some people?" John 12:32 - "But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." Rom. 11:32 - "For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all." 1 Tim. 2:4 - "who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Tim. 2:6 - "who gave himself as a ransom for all men?the testimony given in its proper time." 1 Tim. 4:9 - "(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe." Titus 2:11 - "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." John 3:15 - "that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." Acts 2:21 - "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Rom. 1:16 - "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."Rom. 10:4 - "Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." Rom. 10:13 - "for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" 2 Pet. 3:9 - "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." Rom. 3:22 - "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference," Heb. 5:9 - "and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him" Mark 16:15 - "He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.'" John 1:29 - "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ??Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 3:16 - "??For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God?s one and only Son." John 6:51 - "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.'" John 8:12 - "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ??I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.?" John 12:47 - "??As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it." 2 Cor. 5:19 - "that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men?s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation." 1 John 2:2 - "He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." 1 John 4:13 - "And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world." John 5:24 - "??I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." That is enough for now. So, just so that I am clear. All of these verses speak of a God who died for all, wants all to repent, draws all, and loves all. This is what I believe and this is what Scripture actually says. I will not believe otherwise until someone can show me a single verse which specifically says that Christ did not die for all, does not draw all, does not want all to repent, or does not love all. If such a verse is produced, I will continue this discussion. Until such a time, I will stand on these verses. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
