Bible Question: Hi, sorry I guess I got a little carried away. The question in view of the scripture provided in my last (note); could someone be filled with the Holy Spirit of God without having asked the Father specifically for Him, even though that someone is a born again believer having asked Christ to come into his heart? |
Bible Answer: Dear Chris, I cannot support this from Scripture, but I've seen it happen many times. People salvificly come to the Lord but are not yet aware of all the benefits that accrue to such a thing. Consequently, they aren't aware that they are now sealed by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps they only know the name Jesus, and what He has done for them at Calvary... and even this, they only know indistinctly. One of the wonderful things about Christianity is that we never stop learning and growing. That is one of the evidences of our salvation. It isn't long when we begin to bear fruit, hate sin, and increase in our Love of the Lord. In Him, Doc PS The phrase "asking Christ to come into his heart" does not appear in Scripture. That's a modern turn of phrase. Also, in my understand, regeneration can and does occur before the asking of anything. The logical sequence of events in salvation is a study called ordo salutis. |
