NASB | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. |

Bible Note: Hi, newwine... It wasn't meant as two separate questions. One cannot rightly divide the Word without a theological context. However, Pentecostalism, in all its various flavors, has this particular phrase so loaded with presupposition, that it hinders a proper grammatical interpretation. (Scripture never -- not ever -- means something that it never originally meant.) Shrugging aside all the baggage might actually yield some benefit to our study of the Word. Because of his knowledge of the original language of the NT, Tim is uniquely suited to instruct us in this instance. In Him, Doc |
