AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. |

Bible Note: Greetings Newwine! Concerning the repeated fillings, I understand that Acts 2:4 is the initial filling. I simply included it to demonstrate that it had already taken place by the time the other two are mentioned. :-) There were a couple other verses that I did not include for a technical reason. Both of them had the verb 'to be filled' in an aorist participle form. These could be translated, 'having been filled' and thus could be referring back to Acts 2:4 or they could be referring to action taking place after a new filling. Since there is some doubt, I left those two verses out. There is also the case of Paul, where Ananais says in 9:17, "Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit." Verse 18 tells us that Paul does receive his sight, so one could presume that he also was filled with the Holy Spirit. In which case, Acts 13:9 would indicate a second filling for him as well. I was curious though as to why you would say that the original verses I cited stretch the imagination? They speak of subsequent fillings, so why would that stretch the imagination? :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
