NASB | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. |
Subject: How to follow, walk in the Spirit? |
Bible Note: Greetings Lionheart! Scripture never specifically spells out why repeated fillings are needed, so I could only speculate. 1) Scripture demonstrates that the disciples, and Paul, were filled more than once with the Holy Spirit. 2) The command to Christians (Eph. 5:18) is a present tense imperative, indicating ongoing fillings. 3) The 'fillings' seem to always occur when some special empowerment of the Spirit was needed in their lives. Acts 2:38 would not really apply to this topic as it is discussing the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which occurs at salvation, and is only a one time event. My understanding is one baptism, but many fillings. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
