AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that all of you spoke in unknown tongues, but even more [I wish] that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater [and more useful] than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he translates or explains [what he says], so that the church may be edified [instructed, improved, strengthened]. |
Subject: Why no prophets anymore? |
Bible Note: Bradk As to the post on prophets it is my understanding that any one theological position is not to be championed. That responses are to present biblical truths and when a theological position is presented it is to be done fairly and giving equal time to any opposing theologicial positions. Example in the case Prophet and prophecy is view primarily in two ways. The first is did exist in the Old Testament and New Testament but it is now believed to have ceased since the canonization of the New Testment which is seen as the perfect of 1 Cor 14:15 There is other theological group that sees prophecy active today perhaps not in the same scope of the it was seen in the Old and New Testament but still in use today. Most modern day usage of the prophecy is to confirm things to people that they had been praying about. No true prophecy has ever gone beyond the boundaries already estabished in scripture. A true believer must prayerfully considered whether any prophecy is God given or not. I think this is a fair representation of Prophecy today that stays well within Lockman guidelines and gives fair representation to both sides of the issue. And is presented to inform not to champion or critize a particular theological position. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm of the opinion that until all questions of this nature are answered in a similar way the StudyBible forum will be seen as favoring one theological position over another. Which is something Lockman wants to avoid. |
