NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that all of you spoke in unknown tongues, but even more [I wish] that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater [and more useful] than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he translates or explains [what he says], so that the church may be edified [instructed, improved, strengthened]. |
Subject: Why no prophets anymore? |
Bible Note: Beja This was way beyond just championing a theological view. he used a belittling and insulting term. No different that if I said Reform theologians are pedophiles and as sinners not worthy to handle the holy word of God. Think that might provoke a fight? Then why don't you think what he said might evoke the same reaction. My question why is everyone defending the use of such a word in connection to a theological position? Think of Lockman position on this what if headquarters of the denomination holding that theological position was seeking a company to have them publish Sunday School material or to use NASB material and they came across that post on a Lockman sponsored forum belittling, mocking and insulting a doctrine they hold near and dear. Do you think it might influence their purchasing decisions? |
