NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that all of you spoke in unknown tongues, but even more [I wish] that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater [and more useful] than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he translates or explains [what he says], so that the church may be edified [instructed, improved, strengthened]. |
Subject: Why no prophets anymore? |
Bible Note: My hypothetical is way out bounds?? How is it so different than this? “Here, then, is the explanation of the babel of tongues which is now heard in Christendom. When the natural man takes it on him to handle the things of God, they are sure to be corrupted. How can those who are devoid of divine grace and in love with sin faithfully communicate the gospel which unsparingly condemns sin?" Basically I see what I consider to be a gift of the Holy Spirt being called babble and a person such as me who speaks in tongues too much of the sinner to be able to handle it. I don't handle “it” I yield my will to the Holy Spirit and He does. Also anything given by God through the Holy Spirit deserves more respect that to be called babble. Even if one considers Pentecostals misguided and driven by emotion to mock a fundamental doctrine of their faith in such a manner is uncalled for on a forum that is visited by people of various theological doctrines. Or do you suggest we begin to mock each other's fundamental doctrines and cast doubts on the others ability to properly handle the word of God given us. I wonder how long the forum would exist with no fights. |
