Subject: Women speak in church? |
Bible Note: Melanie First let me address the last part of your response. I think your right wives do give into the desires of their husbands from time to time. However that is a two way street I know I give in to the desires of my wife also. Again I think you missed what I was saying with Paul. Paul was telling a women to be in subjection with their husband and not to do or say anything that would tear him down in public. He says if you have a question ask it at home don't air you dirty laundry in public. I think church women knowing the husband is to be the head of the home often times make statements that reflect badly on the husband and his priestly role. sometimes this is in innocence and I suspect other times as a way of getting back at the husband. But more than once I have watched a husband twist and turn in his seat as his wife asks a question that clearly shouts hey you husband aren't doing your job at home. As for the food offered to idols your right the church of Jerusalem issued the decree don’t eat things offered to idols. Paul was saying what is an idol but a worthless piece of stone what harm can it do. Only the power an idol has is the authority we give it. Many times some of the meat in various cities was offered to idols and then taken to the meat market and sold along with the rest of the meat. Paul was saying it can’t hurt you so don’t worry is meat that was offered or not. Paul then cautions us that if a brother says that meat was offered to idols we shouldn’t eat as we make him stumble. Even though we know it has no power. I don’t see any conflict here Paul is simply stating if you know the meat is offered to idols fine don’t partake of it. If you don’t know don’t ask since idols have not power anyhow. I worry when you say you see people contradicting each other in the Bible, perhaps your not taking their statements in context. I have never found a conflict yet when I viewed the statement within proper context. EdB |
