Bible Note: John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Sound (Strong's 5456): a sound, a tone of inanimate things, as musical instruments a voice of the sound of uttered words speech of a language, tongue The quotes of 1 Cor 14 are perfect to show that the gift of tongues is not speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. Now look at the Gentiles being brought into the fold. Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor 14.22 states that tongues are those that do not believe. Everyone there believed. The Jews believed they already had the Holy Ghost and the Gentiles would not have received the Holy Ghost if they did not believe. Praise the Lord! Norm |
