AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Subject: Is this about water baptism at all? |
Bible Note: Hi justme, Thank you for your continuing prayers for me, and I will pray for you also. I will update my profile for you concerning my trip. The difference of interpretation from the traditional in the verse that we are considering is one of capitalization. I believe that "holy spirit" should be lower case in the verse. I believe that holy spirit is the gift promised by the Holy Spirit. That is why I have spirit in the lower case for verse 18, "I will in those days pour forth of My *spirit and they shall prophecy. And (I) will grant..." Acts 11:18, "...Well then, (God) has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life." Acts 1:8, "but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be (My) witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." So my capitalization choices are upper case when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, lower case when it is poured and when it fills us. I believe that Jesus baptized with holy spirit in contrast to water. Acts 1:5, "For John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the *holy *spirit not many days from now." They were to wait for what had been promised and they received the holy spirit for power to be His witnesses. That is my understanding right now. From the heart, Ray |
